Audit Associate or Audit Junior?

I’m in the process of applying for audit positions but I’m not sure exactly what I’m qualified to apply for. I’ve passed FAR and AUD but I majored in Econ instead of Accounting (I have completed all the accounting courses necessary for licensure). I am 26 and have a year and a half experience in Accounts Payable. Should I be aiming for an audit associate position or an audit junior position?

You should be applying for entry level positions.

By that do you mean audit junior? I'm asking my original question because for some of the firms I'm applying to I fit their written qualifications for both Jr. and associate. Is it very uncommon for people without prior audit experience to become audit associates without ever being juniors first?

“Audit Associate” and “Audit Junior” aren't job titles commonly used where I live…it's more common to hear “Audit Staff” and “Audit Senior.” If you meet their stated qualifications, then by all means, apply for that position! Personally, I would not hire someone for an experienced position (Associate/Senior) if they do not have audit experience. That's not to say every company is like that, but I think you'd have better luck going for the entry level positions (Junior/Staff).

Honestly it probably just depends on where you are applying, but from my experience audit associate positions are also entry level. If you meet the qualifications for both and the associate position seems “higher” then I would just apply for the associate position. The employer will always let you know if they feel like you would be a better fit in their junior role.

Thanks a lot Jilly Beans. One of the firms I'm looking at has audit juniors, audit associates, audit seniors, and audit supervisors. I feel as though having a little accounting related experience and having passed AUD and FAR but not having actual audit experience might put me somewhere between a “junior” and an “associate.” Thanks again!
