Audit is putting me off to sleep! Does it get better?

Started studying for Audit today and I have only read 7 pages all day. I am using Becker. It is soooo boring. I cant differentiate one sentence from another..it all seems the same. Please tell me it gets better soon and I will start making sense of it all soon.

Those of you who have done Audit or who are studying for it right now, how did you overcome the dreadfully boring text? I am writing everything down in hopes that might help something sink in. I know accounting is no walk in the park but this is beyond boring. I recently took an audit class in school and that text was def tolerable. Becker Audit- not so much! I am just hoping it will become a bit interesting soon.

I see you didn't take any other exams. I would honestly start with FAR. But, regardless Audit does not get better. You will get used to it.

I just jumped right into the questions. I have audit experience though so thought my short study time was better served jumping straight into the questions. I followed Jeff's 20 day study plan even though I had a little more time than that. If you don't feel comfortable jumping straight into the questions why not watch the lecture and take active notes while you watch them? That should keep you from falling asleep for the most part. Also, are you taking frequent short breaks during study sessions? I have learned way too late in my CPA journey how absolutely beneficial that is.

    BEC: 73, 81
    AUD: 85
    FAR: 71, 77
    REG: 74, 75...finally DONE! 😀

*This is my 2nd attempt at the CPA exam. For all of you who have failed this exam many times, given up on it, or taken a break like me, remember that it is still possible to finish what you started...failure is the opportunity to begin again more intelligently 🙂

Reading alone does me no good so I would seriously consider your study strategy…

I tried the questions after reading the section and bombed them since I had not absorbed any of the material. So started writing the notes. I will try to write while listening to the lectures now..

I would suggest getting through all the lectures and writing notes marathon-style. Try to hit pause as little as possible and approach it as if your test was in a week and you needed to get through all the lectures ASAP. It's going to be the most boring part, but trust me, you will be glad you went through this process.

@ ayafzal78 AUD is really dry and my best advice is to mix up your study method. Alternate between reading, writing notes, and multiple choice questions frequently. Also try to study in different places. I create flashcards and either go hiking or sit on my deck when I am going over them. You can buy flashcards if you want to save time, but instead of notes I create flashcards that way I can take my notes outside and get fresh air.

I spoke to an ancient wise man who sent me on a mushroom induced journey through an ancient forest to find the key to passing the CPA exam. A talking spider monkey told me to throw the last of my drinking water in the dirt to find what I was looking for. So I followed his instructions and the following message appeared in the soil:

"Do 5000 multiple choice questions for each section"

Wait till you get to A4 transactions cycles. Personally i think eases up a ton in A5 and A6. Make sure you lock down those first two chapters cause thats a ton of questions on the exam.

My advice is to watch the lectures and let the material settle. Then go back and read the chapter. Then you should do well on the mc. Its all about absorbing and understanding the material. Dont take the shorcut and memorize.
