Has anyone here passed Audit with UWorld Roger CPA Review without taking extensive notes?

This is my first exam and first try at the exam. I am taking (pretty) extensive notes as I go along, but it’s been 3 weeks and I’m barely through Section 2. After a long day at work, I can commit myself to watching the videos and reading the book, but I always get distracted/tired while taking notes. Just wondering if I should continue with my strategy or if I can ease off the notes a bit.

Edit – I study 2 hours Monday – Friday and 8 hours on weekends.

I have not taken AUD yet but like you i also write extensive notes. As i watch the videos i write little notes on the side margins of the book and then i read the section and create an outline. I never go back to reading the outline i created but i need to do it because it is the only way for the concepts to get in my head. It all depends on your studying style, if you feel like you could just learn from the videos and reading the book then maybe just do that or you could also get the NINJA notes and copy those notes instead of your own.

3 weeks and 2 hours a day with free weekends and you've only made it to Section 2?

You need to tweak your note-taking because that is taking far too long.

– Watch the lecture, don't take notes.
– When a video ends, take notes. I usually copy/paraphrase from the subsection I just watched from the book.
– Watch next lecture in the chapter, repeat.

Then the section ends and you do the questions. I do them once and circle the ones I missed for review later. After I've gone through the entire course.

When I was studying, if I had 2 hours a day and free weekends, I would already be nearing completion of the course and moving onto Ninja MCQs for review.

The problem is – that's basically the strategy I've been taking and I'm feeling like it isn't working for me. I don't know how to paraphrase. I think rewriting Ninja notes may work, though.

I did your approach for FAR- it didn't work too well because essentially by the time I finished all of the sections I had forgotten the earlier ones AND my notes were worthless because I had essentially re-written the book. I changed strategies for REG… I watched all of the videos following along with the book. I really didn't take any notes… made a couple of notations of things he put on the white board but other than that just watched them over one long weekend – I was pretty much ready to slap that stupid grin off his face by the end 🙂 (trust me when I say a little Roger goes a long way- ha ha ha ha ). THEN I started in with the MCQ's… this is where I took ALL 100% of my notes. I wrote down everything I got wrong and why- and made notations on the things I got right. I then condensed those further into bullet points filling in with NINJA notes… making a kind of combined Ninja and my own version. The MCQ's kept all of the information fresh plus hit the concepts home for me. Everyone learns differently but for me I found this to be a really good approach and moved me a long a lot faster than the other way- which tends to lead me to frustration and boredom. GOOD LUCK

I want to say paraphrasing is the BEST way to study, at least for me. You're pretty much taking the information and putting it into your own words. You learn so much better by internalizing that way. For audit, since it is so note-taking extensive, I would continue taking notes like twice since the section itself is not that big.

@mckan514w I have heard of folks using the method you're describing and they rave about it. I've been told to write down or make a note card on every MCQ i get wrong.

Sarah T- I make note cards on the things I really really really just can not remember- otherwise I found (after FAR of course) that much like my notes I was stuck with thousands of note cards that were just way too overwhelming to go through :-). I am a big fan of typing out my notes for the day and then before I start my next day of studying read over them and trying to condense. If there is something in there that I have already forgotten or don't feel comfortable condensing I make a note card.

I take a great deal of notes as well. And, I'm moving too slow because of it. Please let me know what you did concerning your notetaking. I see you bought the Ninja MCQ. Did you buy the Ninja notes as well.
