From what I've seen, hard to fail "only" because of the sims. The way the exam is structured, if you've done very well on the mcq's, then you need to pick up only a few points more from the sims to pass. And a good 10 points is the communication- so doing well on that definitely helps.
I really don't have a good answer to your research question- I don't think I was able to nail those- so just selected what I felt was the closest. But I believe the research tabs are worth just a couple points- so I wouldn't worry too much about those.

I left the center feeling like I bombed FAR in April, and when I got my score, I pulled off an 84. I felt the MCQs weren't too bad, but I had no idea what was going on with the simulations.

I just took Audit on July 5, and I am not sure how I did. I finished the exam in 3 hours and felt that the simulations were way too easy. The testlets did get harder, so hopefully I did well.

CPAexaminPA,

How did you feel about the the MCQ's? How did they compare to practice questions and which study material did you use? I take Audit in two weeks and it's my last section, but I'm more nervous than I was on the 1st try.

I used Gleim for AUD and I felt that the MCQs were a little easier than those that I reviewed for studying with the material. As I went through the exam, even though the testlets felt like they were harder, it seemed to me that the MCQs were pretty easy.

I wish you the best of luck with Audit and hopefully you will be finished after this exam in two weeks.

I hope I passed Audit and I pass Regulation at the end of August...then I will be finished!

I am scheduled to take AUD on July 29. Right now I am just about finished with Chapter 3. I am using the Becker CPA review materials, flashcards, and just ordered the final review to do two weeks before my exam. Kinda scared atm. I just went though my first busy season as an auditor and when I am answering my MCQs, I find myself referring back to my experience. That seems to be working so far. Any advice and help is greatly appreciated.

Hey everyone...I am taking AUD TOMORROW! I am freaking out!!! I am a tax girl and not an "audit" girl. I did MCQs all weekend and am completely losing my mind. I called several friends yesterday who are taking the CPA Exam and bawled to them simply because I do not feel as prepared for AUD as I have the other 3. However, before going into any of the exams, I look over my notes, and without a doubt, find something "I should have studied more." Any advice?

Pres112, What has gotten me through the other 3 exams is practice, practice, practice! I do the questions over and over until I score at least 90% on each. I also work the questions on http://www.cpareviewforfree.com. They are much more difficult than than the exam, but they offer some variety and force you to think about the concepts more. I also spend some time during the last 2 weeks before the exam skimming the book. And when I feel like I'm about to throw up, I'm ready!

KSgirl86...it all depends how you study. For me, I do three 30 MCQ tests the morning before my exam and even if I notice areas I should have studied more...I don't bother studying since I won't learn it overnight. I recommend doing a brief review of the information that you think you should have studied more, but don't do anything in depth.

I find it better to be relaxed going into the exam instead of stressing over whether you know all the material. For all you know, the information you should have studied more, won't be on the exam.

I have AUD tomorrow as well. I agree stressing out won't help anything. Just review whatever you can and know your strengths and weaknesses.

I remember for my FAR test someone in the waiting room was trying to tell me how terrible the test is, but dreading over it doesn't put you in a good mindset.

I agree...I usually relax the day before the exam and do everything and anything to keep my mind off the exam. Go into the exam with a clear mind and it has worked so far for me.

I just finished AUD...the second teslet was the hardest I have ever seen...The third was less hard than the second but more than the first!...And the sims...!

My sister just finished Law School and is studying for the NY Bar exam. She is taking the most prominent Bar review course and they suggest that everyone pick choice B if they dont know the answer because if enough people get the question wrong and guessed B then they will throw the question out. I think we should pick A-D and do the same... Thoughts?

I had audit today too (or well yesterday). The simulations were shorter than I expected from my review. The test can be completed really quickly since there is basically no calculations for anything. You know it or not; pick an MC choice and go...

potatogun- I actually have a question for you about FAR. Any advice you can give about studying for the FAR Sims? Did you do all the sims in Becker- also the governmental and NFP ones?

Ok...here goes...I don't really know how my test went. This is the first exam where I could tell my testlets were getting slightly harder. My simulations were awful and my communications were off the wall. I was brain dead after I took it...I think I am still partly brain dead today. I spent about 21 on testlet 1, 29 on testlet 2, 31 on testlet 3, 1 hour and 33 minutes on sim 1, and 39 minutes on sim 2 and left with a remaining 57 minutes. I am numb to the whole process...and now to wait 5 weeks to determine if I am done with this thing FOREVER or if I have to try it agan! Ick! Any thoughts?

I sat for AUD on Tuesday, 7/8. I feel the same KSgirl.. I don't know how mine went either. At points I was like I'VE GOT THIS!!! and at others I was like, what is this question, I have NOT seen this material and the question is stupid. Lol. I used Becker 2010, and I feel as though it did prepare me very well for the exam. But again, some of the questions were so far off the wall, I couldn't help but think seriously, AICPA?

However, I can say without a doubt, that my second testlet was SIGNIFICANTLY more difficult than my first, and my third somewhere in between. Can someone please explain the theory to me-- based off a bunch of your posts, its seems as though the testlets get more difficult if you're doing well..? I took the GMAT and am familiar with the sliding grading scale, but I didn't realize the CPA does the same.

Also, how many of you are in audit? I was in audit for 2 years, and I can't imagine having some of those sims without having experience in the field. Becker didn't cover 3 tabs that I had on the exam, but I knew them (sort of anyway) from experience.

I have hardly any audit experience whatsoever. As for the typical theory, if you notice your testlets getting progressively "difficult," then you are doing well. However, when I took FAR and REG, I never noticed a difference. Matter of fact I thought REG was easy and I got an 86. That's just my two cents.

HA! I super hope that I think REG is easy lol.

As for the theory... That is very encouraging. It also seems like a lot of people on here noticed their testlets getting more difficult. Here's hoping we all kicked its butt!

And just some advice for those that haven't taken it yet.. I know that all of the review programs have been emphasizing this, but READ THE QUESTIONS CAREFULLY. I know this may seem like overkill, but on the exam, I read the questions twice, wrote the key words "Not", "Most Likely", "Least Likely", then ABCD underneath them, on each question on the exam. I caught myself almost mess up on about 5 questions, which can easily make or break your grade.

Also, the exam is 4.5 hours, so USE IT! It's very easy to fly through the MC on this one, since they're all qualitative, but use the time to read, read and re-read. You're going to have plenty of time to do the sims even if you spend 45 mins on each testlet. Good luck!

I took AUD for the first time in the last testing window and I got a 64! I don't know what to think of this score. Apparently I didn't do so well on "information" .. like what is that supposed to mean? I did comparable on the other sections to other candidates but obviously bombed "information" which apparently is like 30-35% or so. Any of you know what chapters (Becker) are most important? And what is the best way to prepare for the exam second time around? I am almost ready to give up on this whole thing. All my friends took all the sections and passed them on the first try. I feel extremely dumb and stupid!

I love it when I notice the little things in the questions meant to trick you. Like "may" or "should", when they MUST or HAVE TO. But then right after I doubt myself and wonder if they really did that on purpose or am I just screwing myself over.

@Anagha
I did at least all the simulations that were for the chapters and the final review obviously as well. A lot of people say if you know the MC content you know the simulations, but I often find the simulations helpful for studying because it might not have any "hints" to solve it like a MC question where the answer is there for sure.

I took the audit exam on 7/7. I did terrible. The sim was so hard=(
I don't think I will pass. Sigh.

I took AUD today. The testlets felt like they were getting harder, but it may be because I began thinking in circles and questioning everything I thought I remembered. The sims were weird. Ugh.

I used Becker. The book covered everything in the exam...but the questions didn't. I wish I had studied the stuff that wasn't covered in the MCQs for Becker.

Also, though the section is called Audit, it isn't all audits... Know the differences between reviews, compilations, procedures engagements, &c, especially for reports.

@AlmostThere - You've passed your first three sections. Don't waste your time on ratios. You already have a basic idea of how they work. If you need specific ones on a sim, they will be in the Resources tab.

Please, does anyone know when the Wave 1 scores will be out?

No formal predictions out yet, but my guess on wave 1 release is the week of August 22-28! I know it seems like forever.

I take Audit on July 16 and I have been trying to skim the Becker book to pick up "extra" material. But it's hard, Audit is so boring to me.

Thanks for the info on the updates at AICPA website. I have the test tomorrow and definitley needed to know a couple of those items (well I am assuming I need to).

Has anyone did the questions on the AICPA website? If so what are your thoughts as to wheather or not those are comprable to acutal exam questions. I feel like they were easy compared to Beckers questions, as I only got 4 of them wrong out of the 50.

Excited to be in the audit forum....progressing my way along.

Just finished BEC on 7/10...I felt good about it, but they say that can be a bad thing since the questions can be "tricky"

Can't dwell on the past though.....Round 3! Lets gooo!

Hope 4-5 weeks + work is enough time to study!
