Hi. I just started in public accounting as an auditor and i’m getting mixed vibes from seniors within the firm. When they are showing me things they say “just wait until we get to a corporate audit, you will seriously hate your life”. I’m in my first few weeks so im not really understanding why people are so infuriated with public accounting. The industry i will by servicing for now is Manufacturing/Distribution. Apparently, M&D clients are hard and complicated. However, I worked in the accounting department of a M&D Company for year and a half out of college so i understand some of the things we do as public auditors. I guess i’m asking whats so bad about busy season in public accounting in general? If you’ve worked on M&D clients, whats wrong with that specific industry that people get frustrated with?

Auditors by nature like to complain about hours, compensation, blah blah blah. I don't really get it either….. Learn from them. Nobody likes a whiner =]

In general, people like to complain about their jobs and insist that no one knows how bad they have it and how terrible life is in their profession and how theirs is the worst. But, those same people would complain if it was their job to vacation in Hawaii and soak up the sun. With a good attitude, ‘most any job is fine. I've worked public and private, and yeah some weeks were very long in public…but so what? I still enjoyed it. (I was in taxes not audit, but we still had some long hours.)
