This may be an odd question to ask but I will be a new audit associate for my firm and the firm requires a lot of traveling (mostly locally) with occasional out of town audits. My question is what do auditors do in the winter time when it snows? Do they still audit when there is inches of ice on the road? Its a dumb question but I’m looking out for myself as I do not like driving hen there is either snow or ice on the ground. Do clients actually expect auditors to be there on site if theres a blizzard outside? Please tell me im overthinking on this

Depending on how bad it is, you can work remotely from home. If a client is closed, you wont be showing up there.

If it is really bad, you will most likely be at home, working all day through e-mailing/IMing your senior.

    Light dusting, have fun driving

Moral of the story, don't do your CPA while working in Big 4 Public Accounting.

I work as a state auditor, we audit school districts and local municipalities. Generally we work if the client is open, But, a lot of times, we are able to work from home some if weather is expected to be bad….

I've had to drive to work in 6 inches of snow before – the manager at the time wouldn't let us work from home.

We had our own badges to our client's building so we had 24/7 365 access – even if they were closed due to weather, we were not.

I'm also worried about this as last winter was pretty bad where I live, weather-wise. I worked at a financial services company where we couldn't just take the day off because if the markets were open we were doing business. Meant a lot of nights in a hotel near the office.

But this year I'm starting with a public firm, and plan on getting a new-to-me car when I start. Definitely going to be getting AWD/snow tires just in case!
