Avoid studying the day before the exam

    Hey everyone,

I decided to look into strategies for the day before the exam. I came across reverences to studies that have been done that say studying the day before the exam is actually bad:

“Research shows that studying the day before the exam hurts you, because it crowds your short term memory with last minute info that can interfere with long term memory retrial or bias your decision making skills.”

Before I came across this information I was reading through all the chapters in my FAR book hoping to pick up all of the little subjects I forgot about. Could it be that enjoying my night is a better strategy? Is is possible that I am done studying for FAR as I write this? Or will I score a 74 tomorrow because I was looking for any excuse to stop studying?

Taking the day off before the exam is an interesting concept. What are your thoughts?

I spoke to an ancient wise man who sent me on a mushroom induced journey through an ancient forest to find the key to passing the CPA exam. A talking spider monkey told me to throw the last of my drinking water in the dirt to find what I was looking for. So I followed his instructions and the following message appeared in the soil:

"Do 5000 multiple choice questions for each section"

I actually stopped studying by 5pm each night before my exams. And the day before, I always only did a quick read through of my review book to make sure I knew everything fairly well.

    AUD - 92
    BEC - 81
    FAR - 76
    REG - 89
    Never give up!

I always reviewed my notes a day before and a few hours right before the exam but everyone has their own strategy.

Good luck! And don't come back with anything less than a 75 πŸ˜‰

    Good luck Monk! πŸ™‚

I'm not sure I 100% agree with that study's conclusion…because crowding my short-term is the only way I can pass. πŸ˜› But I do definitely agree with resting well before the exam. It's between 5 and 8 pm wherever you are (if you're in the 48), so I'd say, sit back and enjoy the ride at this point. Sleep well and go get that 75 or better tomorrow! πŸ™‚

I'm also curious to hear opinions on the day before. My test is Tuesday, and right now I'm comfortable with most of the topics, but not quite everything. I've been going back and forth between re-reading and reviewing only the couple key topics I think I need the most work on and then taking the rest of the day off…or doing that, and then reviewing everything from my notes for the entire rest of the day. Not sure how I want to play it yet.
