Back from BEC exam from hell — Pretty devastated.

    I’m usually not one to complain but Super Rant ahead:

    I just finished BEC about 2 hours ago. For studying I used Becker and put in close to 90 hours in 4 weeks. I did every chapter 3, yes 3x each. Progress tests, Both final exams, did flash cards, rewrote notes etc. I knew the Becker book like the back of my hand you could ask what page XXX was on and I could tell you. Used the same approach to study and pass FAR.

    So I am feeling pretty confident heading into the exam and wasn’t nervous at all. I get to the first McQ testlet and legitimately half of the multiple choice were topics I NEVER saw in becker. You ever read a multiple choice question and then not even know what 3/4 of the answers even mean, let alone the correct answer? That was half of this testlet. So after mostly guessing on half the questions I moved onto the next one expecting a very easy one since I probably bombed this.

    Get to the next one and it is INSANELY hard. It was more of the same – questions I did not have a clue how to calculate or the answers were random things I’ve never heard of. I definitely bombed this testlet. At this point I was unbelievably frustrated I almost just walked out of the exam room.

    I calmed myself down and just went onto the next one. This was a testlet that had actual BEC stuff I learned which I knew so it was easy. The writing portion was straightforward.

    I just dont understand what happened. It was almost as if I signed up for the wrong exam. If I had my becker book in front of me I could not have answered about 10+ questions simply by the fact they weren’t in the study material. There were whole chapters from Becker that I did not see one question on.

    Has this happened to anyone? I am not trying to exaggerate either. I would accept it if I half as*ed studied and couldnt figure out the answer. This was not the case, I studied for X and they tested me on Y. It would be an absolute miracle if I passed this exam. The worst part is I don’t even know how to study for the next time.

    Yes, I took BEC in November after using Becker 2011 materials to study and bombed it. I made a 56 and studied decently. I don't think I studied as much as you, but I did study about 70 hours, I'd say and I did get through all the book and questions. I felt the same way you did, which is why I am not sure that I will go with Becker again (2011 materials are now expired). I felt like about 3/4 of what I saw was not in the study materials, but I just chalked it up to having not spent the recommended 100 hours of study time.

    I also took BEC today and used Becker. Im just as frustrated because i spent hours studying for random questions out of left field to be a majority of the exam. I would have done just as well on this exam if i skimmed the becker book the night before. If i do fail i would have no idea how to prepare…may have to buy wileyand ninja notes. Thanks for nothing becker

    I can't say for theory questions in BEC but with the calculations, most of the questions are actually stuff that is covered in Becker. The actual exam questions are just testing how well you understand it. They are not just straight out of the stuff you see in the practice questions. That's why you need to memorize the equations very well. I did think mine was very hard but still doable. I think you'll pass. No worries :)!

    FAR 5/14 88 PASSED!
    REG 7/13 74 :((((((((....! I cant believe it!!!! I studied so hard...
    REG retake 11/29 -> 89!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
    BEC 10/11/12 -> 84!!!!!!!!!!!!!
    AUD 10/25/12 -> 95!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    I'm DONE! OMG 8 months of hard work.

    I SHALL PASS. BECAUSE IT'S ME, SO EVERYTHING WILL BE OK!

    Hey SeePeeAyy

    That's strange. My exam definitely had questions I had not seen, but I think they were all at least on topics that I studied.

    If your second testlet was harder, that's a good sign that you did pretty well on the first one.

    I bet you'll end up passing anyway. Good luck

    @ nbad311 To be honest I felt very strong in all topics within the Becker book. Maybe slight weak spot in the IT terms but lets just say that didnt come back to haunt me on this exam.

    @ rlsoccer6 Thats exactly how I am feeling, could have spent a day on Becker material and have been as prepared as I was after weeks of studying.

    @ forever4 I knew all of the formulas, literally every one.

    @audiox & Whatdidyou — I hope so, but I really just felt like I guessed on most and had no idea on a lot. Im not sure if it was enough. I didn't even feel this upset after FAR.

    I bet you passed. BEC was my first exam and I was doing an at home study program. I had no idea how to study or if I was doing it right. I understood the material but I know I didn't do enough MCQ or practice exams to prepare. When I sat for the exam I was so frustrated. It could have been in a different language. Half of the time I had no clue what the question was even asking for. The WC was not a challenge.

    I drove home crying and knew I hadn't a snow ball's chance in hell of passing.

    To my surprise, I got a 74.

    Surely you passed 🙂

    I sat for BEC today. I will post my experience later tonight but i'll give you a little preview.

    They could have let me into the testing center with the Becker book and it wouldn't have made a difference. I'm so mad right now. This is the first time i've sat for one of these exams and have literally no clue on how to even guess what the right answer was for some of these questions.

    For what it's worth, I just took BEC today…I literally finished taking the exam a little over an hour ago. I studied for 100+ hours. I could have written this exact post. I felt SO lost.

    In addition, I literally had ZERO clue on my WC. I looked my topics up when I got home in the Becker book and ONE was in there with the tiniest little blurb (that I obviously read quickly and didn't pay much attention to) and the others were briefly and generally touched on, but not enough for me to have known anything.

    BEC: 1/12/13 - 75!!!!!
    REG: 2/23/13
    AUD: 4/21/13
    FAR: 7/6/13

    I am glad, well not really, that some of you are experiencing the same thing and I'm not crazy. I agree that if I had my becker book on the desk I would still not have been able to answer a good 10-12 McQs.

    An example without disclosing much was like “if someone wants to do X they would use which of the following” the answers were 4 items that were not in the BEC book and I'm 100% positive. I did not know what any of the answers meant so it was a random guess. This happened with about 5 questions or more.

    Having no experience with Becker I can't judge its effectiveness in preparing for BEC. However, I can say that using Wiley I did not encounter any questions not addressed in the book. Somewhat surprising considering the thickness of the book compared to the other three.

    FAR - 79 - 07/2012
    AUD - 65, 78 - 11/2012
    BEC - 76 - 11/2012
    REG - 78 - 01/2013
    ETH - 98 - 01/2013

    Material: Wiley books
