Bad news

Took the day off work because I have FAR later this afternoon and decided to schedule an appointment with my Dr. for the stomach pains, anxiety, vomiting during the exams, etc. Two birds – one stone. The good news – I feel ready for FAR (attempt 2) the bad news, I have an ulcer.

Anyone else with health problems while studying for the exams? In all honesty, my biggest stressor is my boss/job. My boss is a ginormous a-hole, has an ego the size Texas, and wants me on call 24/7 to handle any ridiculous requests he might have. So, I think it is the job that is really taking a toll. Just wanted vent and commiserate with others in a similar situation.

Now, I’m off to get my bit of studying and relaxation in before I go lay the smack-down on FAR!

Well I'm planning on studying for FAR all of September with an Oct 1st test date, and I have surgery planned for the middle of the month.

So sorry to hear about your ulcer! I had a job-created ulcer when I was much younger (and probably cared more than I do now about bosses). Used to drink a quart of Milk of Magnesia every day and then found out it caused me to create kidney stones! I was actually able to quit that job on my doctor's orders and collect unemployment.

Take the best care of you and your health! Your body can do wonderful things to repair itself, but only if you can rest. Best wishes on FAR.

Ugh, sorry to hear! I can see how that could happen. This exam is STRESSFUL and I can't imagine if my boss wasn't supportive. I go through phases of wanting to leave my job, but hearing stories like your about your awful boss makes me think I should just hangout and be grateful!

Good luck on FAR! Hopefully you get through the exams quickly and get a better job and get to tell that boss to shove it. 😛

I thought milk of magnesia was a laxative…

Oh yeah, headaches, stomachaches, canker sores, etc. I always felt like I was good at handling stress but it just manifests via health problems.

Thanks for commiserating and sympathizing everyone! And I thought the adult acne was annoying! Hindsight is 20/20. 🙂

I think short bursts of stress are fine, such as those at work where you have tight deadlines or a boss who can be an occasional ass. When you have long term, consistent stress, such as that associated with this exam or a work situation that just plain sucks…..your health has to suffer if you don't know how to deal with it. Most people are born one way or the other and either internalize it or have the ability to let it go. One can learn how to let it go but IMO it's not something that can just be picked up by reading a book, you really have to adjust your perspective on things; it can take a while. In the mean time, sleep and exercise are two of the best ways to help with the side effects.

Been there. Done that. When the surgeon went to the waiting room to talk to my husband, he told him that I didn't have an ulcer. He said my stomach WAS an ulcer. The entire lining of my stomach was inflamed and bleeding. He didn't understand how I could stand up straight. I'm sure your doctor has given you a ton of prescriptions to take for your stomach, but that won't fix the problem until you can get the stress under control. I know it's hard, but you might want to consider saying what you are thinking instead of holding it in. Believe me it works wonders. Learning to not really care what other people think about you also helps. I used to get worked up if someone didn't like me, but now, I really just don't care. My health is far more important than someone's opinion. But then, I'm at the point where I just don't like people. Oh well! Take care!

I think milk of magnesia is a laxative also. Make sure you avoid on test day or you will be posting on the “Who Leaves the Room During a Break” thread.

Alboreland – that's funny! I believe I already posted on that one, but it's because I had to go puke between testlets 2 and 3 for REG. A mix of anxiety and ulcers I guess. When I get done with FAR tonight I'm gonna party like it's 1999 and drink a ton of water and take my meds. #Livingthelife

If your work environment is causing you health problems (both physically and psychologically) then leave.

No amount of money is worth your well being.

Oops! My bad. It was so long ago I got my M's mixed up. It was Maalox (cherry flavor) that I was guzzling. Yeah, MofM would have been bad!
