On the BEC just went from a 69 to a 60, felt cautiously optimistic leaving the exam that I was going to pass. Currently beside myself right now. Anyhow, I'm going to attempt to think rationally and would appreciate some constructive feedback. Here's my situation and dilemma:

    1) After failing BEC the first time on 2-28-2014 I went ahead and did the entire Wiley CPA Book Exam Review questions & task based simulations. Then I went through the Online Wiley CPA Test bank questions and a couple of practice exams scoring in the 80s. How should I adjust my approach for the next BEC exam go around?

    2) The plan was to pass the BEC on 4-5-2014 & then try to tackle AUD 5-31-2014. Which theoretically would have gotten me 3/4 of the way through the exams. Should I forgo attempting AUD on 5-31-2014 and instead focus on BEC until the next testing period in July?

    3) Currently working in industry with a stable good paying job albeit not working under a CPA. There is minimal travel in my existing position and I work (4) 10 hour days, which leaves ample time for studying on the weekends. In anticipation of making progress towards the certification I began sending my résumé out. I had an interview at a Big 4 firm 5-1-2014 for an advisory position. Fortunately I didn't mention I was waiting for my BEC results and had only let them know I had passed REG in January. Contemplating resigning from consideration for the position… thoughts?

    REG – 71, 79

    BEC – 69, 60

    AUD – Scheduled

    FAR –

    REG: 71, 79
    BEC: 69, 60, 77
    AUD: 54, 64, 67, 80
    FAR: 67, 74, 89

BEC kinda sucks. Its like an abbreviated version of FAR. Bunch of computational questions with some random theory questions thrown in here and there. And the IT stuff is the BEC equivalent of Governmental Accounting. Im taking the test in under 2 weeks and currently final reviewing. Really focusing on EVERYTHING…especially random theory stufff.

    FAR- PASSED (11/13)
    REG- PASSED (2/14)
    BEC- PASSED (5/14)
    AUD- PASSED (8/14)

If it's important to you, you will find a way. If it isn't, you will find an excuse.

@pks…was the 2nd test just harder/different than the first one you took? Did you switch up your study method or materials the 2nd time around. If not, try Gleim's test bank. I am a big fan of their test banks.

The exam didn't feel any easier, don't take BEC lightly….With a 60 I'm sure I was weak in all areas, nevertheless some of the ancillary topics such as COSO and corporate governance stick out in my mind as something that I should have spent more time on. Literally went through the five stages of loss and grief. At the acceptance stage right now. In all actuality I only gave myself 2 full weekends to prep for the retest… should have taken more time. I will however, look into the Gleim test bank, thanks!

How long have you been doing MCQ? Keep doing MCQ until you want to barf but make sure you understand the concepts. I read somewhere that WTB says if you average 60% you will pass the exam-that wasn't true for me. I was averaging 80% for REG and I failed.

    BEC-75(expired), 74 5/24/14
    REG-64
