I have to retake BEC because my credit expired and I’m sitting on July 11th. I’m halfway through B3 and plan to finish that section up this week. For anyone that’s using Becker for BEC, which sections out of the 6, did you find the most difficult/time intensive? I want to make sure I have a week of review so I want to plan accordingly. Thank you!

I think you should focus on what YOU know you struggle with, especially since you have already gone through the materials once. No one here knows how much time you spent on each respective sections, or how much you knew prior to the exam. For me I struggled a bit with the Cost accounting stuff (end of ch1 and all of ch2 if I remember correctly) simply because I hadn't seen it in years.

I would say the IT section (I think that is section 4 or 5) was the one that gave me the most trouble and took the most time. This is mostly because I did not previously have much (if any) of a background with many of the terms. I also happened to notice that there were more IT questions than I expected (just for my exam; as always every exam is different so take this with a grain of salt). Or maybe I just remember most of the IT questions on my exam since it was the topic that was most difficult for me. If I were to give any advice on IT, I would say spend as much time as possible just being familiar with the terms, what they mean, and the context they are used in. Knowing the terms and doing the multiple choice questions over and over and over should be enough for you to get pretty familiar with it. Good luck!

I completely skipped IT (no IT background) for times sake and I think it was the right decision. It's the whole bang for your buck (or study time) thing. Of course if I had the time I would have focused more on it, but my exam was at the end of the window and I only had 2.5 weeks to prepare while working. In my opinion, to really understand the IT section you need to memorize a TON of pretty unrelated information and random stuff, not knowing what in the world they will throw at you on the exam day.

I honestly can't remember what I struggled with for this exam. I think I struggled a bit with variance analysis but I have that down now. I guess I'm just wondering which sections are the most time intensive…like for FAR, it was bonds, leases, governmental, etc. Just trying to figure out how to budget my time for the next 2 weeks. And I agree with everyone who said IT sucks. Terrible section.

Cost accounting – the stuff about variances and all those different costing systems gave me the most trouble. It was hard to understand because I felt that the text didn't explain the concepts. Instead they just gave the formulas to figure out the answer.

Then on the MCQs, there are slight variations than the textbook examples that made me more confused.

After enough repetition, I understood it more clearly.
