me too i am taking it on thursday
Hopeful- overall, I thought the Becker questions were much harder (especially the Cost Accounting questions). The problem I had with Becker is that they did not cover many of the IT topics that I saw on my exam. But other than that, I felt like I was well-prepared. Good Luck on your exam!
what about the economics needMYlifeback?
I take my exam next Wednesday, and am pretty much freaking out!!!!
I am so glad that I am not the only one freaking out about Becker chapters 3 and 5!! I am taking BEC for the first (and probably not the last) time on Monday 4/19, and I couldn't feel more unprepared. I thought that Becker prepared me so well for REG...I know that I aced the MC and my problem was with the weird sims that I had never seen before. I'm doing the final review software this weekend, and I hope it helps. I bought the Wiley BEC book to help out with chapter 3, and it does, but it's still a mess. I highly recommend supplemental material for this section of the exam if you are using Becker. However, I am a little more hopeful thanks to the folks that said the actual exam questions are easier and less wordier than the Becker questions. I have my chapter 5 cost accounting questions to knock out tonight, so it will be back to feeling like an idiot again :-(
Good luck to everyone who has already sat!!
FL_CPA2010 - God as my witness you are not alone in this battle. I am right there with you. I take BEC the first of May and I am absolutely feeling like an idiot. Chapters 1,2, & 4 are not too bad. However, chapters 3 and 5 are killing me. I just can't seem to get it to stick in my brain. It's like I know what to do on each question, but if they worded it a different way, I don't know if I would be able to answer it. I don't know what to do. I though about purchasing some Gleim questions but I'm not sure. I did chapter 3 for the second time the last 2 days and it's getting a little easier. But chapter 5 is killing me. Good luck with everything. You are not alone.
Thank you south! I thought about rescheduling, but I start my Becker audit class on Tuesday, and the exam at the end of May. I figured there was no sense in postponing it since it would have to wait until the next window anyway. I might as well sit and make an attempt at a 75. Worse case scenario I have to retake it at the same time I would be able to reschedule for.
i'll tell you guys that the material for those sections makes no sense... its very strange.
FL_CPA: hows the wiley material going for you?
who has done all the supplemental questions for becker chapters 3 and 5?
What is your review technique...I have been doing MCQ from the software...20q quizzes, reviewing notes...what else?
i have gone over all the lectures, reviewed all the formulas, done all the mcq's about 3 times. chapters 3 and 5 are the difficult ones, but 3 isnt so bad.. i just need to remember how to attack the questions. chapter 5 is a little different because a lot of it still isnt making sense and i have my exam this coming friday on the 23rd.
i have done all the supplemental questions from all the other chapters except for 3 and 5. i think i am not doing them because of time constraint now as those questions would take me forever and i wont have time to really know the other material.
any advice?
hopeful_cpa
I am in pretty much the same boat as you, I test on Wednesday, I am using Yaeger, I have done the qestions in the book 2x, reviewed all of my notes, pretty much have all formulas down, have done 20question quiz on each chapter using software, and am now doing 20q quizzes on all of the chapters combined. As a whole I am scoring in the high 60's to lower 70's.
How are you scoring?
Any suggestions on how to get my scores up?
CPA-Valenz: i am doing pretty well in all the sections except for the financial management (doing ok) and the cost accounting. I am doing pretty well on the theory aspects of the questions but am struggling on the formula ones.
my scores are in the high 70's to low 90's depending on what section i am doing.
i felt the same before my REG exam in january and thank god i passed that one.
i have yet to do the final exams for BEC with becker, today is focused on tackling cost accounting and all the formulas.
hopefully i can get this down by the end of the night and then i can get a good 4 days of review after work this week.
i dont know how the yaeger material is set up, but with becker they give an explanation on why the answer is what it is after you answer the question. if i get it wrong then i make sure to read what the explanation is and try to just memorize that.
@ hopeful: I have used the Wiley book very sparingly. I started using it when I got stumped on a Becker question. But then I got stumped all all the Becker questions, so I gave up. I just jumped right to the final review in Becker, and that is really good. It really explained how to use the formulas in Ch. 3 and 5. Now I know how to use them, but I can't remember them all :x I am already mentally prepared for retaking this exam in July.
@ hopeful: I didn't do ANY supp Q's for any chapter in this section. I did them all for Reg, and I nailed the MC...take that with my BEC experience and you should probably do the supp's if you have time. I didn't really have the time. Just do as many MCQ's as you can, that is the key bc eventually the concepts will sink in and you will remember the formulas from repetition.
My exam is at noon tomorrow...pray that I don't have to turn to Mr. Yaeger (or Jager, lol) for a July retake.................................
Oh yeah, and I did both Becker final exams and got a 47 on one, and a 50 on the other. And...the Wiley impact audio is excellent for business formations, econ, and I.T. - FYI ;-) Acceptable for finance and cost.
FL: thanks for the input... good luck tomorrow, i hope you do well and get through this. try to go in with a positive attitude and do your best.
i have done the supps for all the chapters but 3 and 5. looking at another 140 and 195 questions makes me want to vomit. especially if 37 questions takes me over an hour to complete i will be doing this one section for a week.
i'll do as many as i can hoping that i get as many in as i can.
Thanks, hopeful!!
I just saw that you are taking BEC tomorrow as well...good luck to you!
FL:
i pushed it off till the end of the week, i am taking it on the 23rd. if i was taking it tomorrow i would be totally screwed.
Good look to you today, mine is Wednesday, I am going to try and rewrite most of my notes today. I read this as a suggestion on the Club 75 website. I have made notes of all of the mcq.
@ CPA-Valenz: Thank you, and good luck to you on Wednesday. I had made a lot of notes of the MCQ's, and of the formulas. I'll be reviewing them again right before I walk into the testing center.
Dear CPA Exam,
Please be kind to me today. You have taken over the last 4 months of my life, and I would very much like for you to be generous to me today.
Signed by praying candidate
FL_cpa....so, how was it? don't scare me too bad
what do you all think the main variance equations tested are? i see that i have 17 variance equations.. any guesses?
CPA-Valenz: It was absolutely horrific! Sorry to freak you out, but it's true. Over half of the exam was on material that was not covered in Becker or Wiley. I may have been one of the unlucky ones that got a crazy exam, or maybe I had a LOT of pretest questions. Don't let me get you down, though, stay positive. You may get a lot of questions that you do know. And for the ones that I did "know", I couldn't remember the stupid formulas :x
Well, actually this is my 2nd attempt, the 1st attempt I felt exactly the same way as you do now. I hadn't seen half the material they were throwing at me. I used Gleim for that attempt.
I now am using Yaeger.
Well, I will find out soon enough, today I took the day off and am cramming, then tomorrow is the DAY!!
Good luck, CPA-Valenz! Did you find that there was additional information in Yaeger that was not in Gleim? I was going to purchase the Yaeger review for when I have to retake this part in July.
With Gleim I just purchased the book...so I read the entire thing and did the questions 2x, but didn't really understand what I was doing.
The Yaeger DVD's helped me to actually understand why I was doing what I was. I definitely understand it better this go around. I scored a 68 with the Gleim book. Just hoping for 7 more points.
Don't give up, you never know!!
thanks guys... lol... no i'm stressing out even more!!
Sorry, hopeful, didn't mean to scare you. As far as your question about the variance equations, I would know them all and the different ways that they can be used. I can't really say much more than that on here.
I really feel that I got the short end of the stick and was tested on all the stuff that is "rarely tested" that Becker skips. And the stuff that they do cover I didn't study as well as I should have bc I was focused on the stuff that I was totally lost on...and was never tested on. Keep your head up and keep redoing ALL the MC...something has got to stick if you understand all the concepts.
FL:
i have chapters 1,2,4 and most of 3 down for sure... chapter 5 is still a work in process (no pun intended) and i am doing my best to get through that. i am hoping that if i kill 1,2,4, most of 3 and some of 5 i should be in good shape... god will we will all do fine on this exam and get through it.
flcpa2010 u may want to redirect yr prayers to the Only HOLY One who answers prayers..don't u think??
@ elsie: I did direct my prayers to the Man himself.
@ hopeful: it sounds like you're in good shape. Just make sure that you do EVERY mcq, and do them 3 or 4 times each.
@ CPA-Valenz: How was it?
1 Chronicles 28:20 ....Be strong and of good courage, and do it (study): fear not, nor be dismayed: for the LORD God, even my God, will be with thee; he will not fail thee, nor forsake thee, until thou hast finished all the work....
Sorry if that offends anyone. Hope it helps.
The test wasn't THAT bad, there were several questions I had never seen but probably only a handful.
Definitely need to know chapter 5...know matter how much you don't want to.
Now, gotta focus on AUD, test for that one is May 28.
oh, and my advice is to allocate your time 50 minutes on each of the 3 sections, and move on even if aren't ready. I ended the exam with 3 minutes left.
Also, I would look at other sources for a few MCQ questions. I used cpareviewforfree.com the day before the exam and am glad I did, some of the types of questions they had were close to a couple on the exam, and my review course (Yaeger) didn't have them.
Wow, sounds like you did well and are going to skew the results for those like me that bombed. But that is great for you...it sounds like you were very prepared. Did you say that you used Yaeger? I can't remember...
CPA-Valenz....that's a good idea. I think that site is free. I might just go check those MCQ's out. Or get a Wiley book or something.
@FL-cpa...i'm not saying I passed...there were a few I just didn't have time to compute...and i got my variances screwed up and had to guess on one of those.
This is also my 2nd try.
tomorrow is the big day for BEC... i know people say the night before should be full of relaxing and watching tv... i for some reason feel the need to do all the becker questions again and do my best to memorize all these variances. i dont have my test till 1:30pm pst so that gives me plenty of time to sleep in if necessary.
game plan for thursday night: do all questions including supplemental mcq's for chapters 1,2,3,4... this way i will hopefully knock those sections out tomorrow... then i will do my best tonight to finish up again all the mcq's for chapter 5 (variances) and do my best to do decent tomorrow.
any thoughts on the plan?
I crammed the night before to...just make sure you aren't confusing yourself more by overloading.
Good Luck!
Hopeful: It sounds like you're in good shape! I hope you rock it today!!! Good luck :)
11:50pm on friday night and just got back from a relaxing dinner and some hookah...
my take on todays exam:
i didnt have nearly as many variance questions as i was afraid i was going to have... but... there was a whole lot of stuff i had no clue where they pulled it out from... now, considering that most of what i saw was stuff i had reviewed, not all of it i remembered, but a lot of stuff i had seen before. the stuff i didnt know what was going on was absolutely from a different planet... i am praying those were those experimental questions.
i am going to say what i said after REG, i could have passed or i could have failed... i really cant say i did terrible and i cant say i did great on it.... i forgot who said this on here but they do a great job of you leaving without knowing what the heck just happened.
now onto AUD for end of may... i pray i dont have to study in june for BEC again =\
@hopeful, fl, we all just took bec, and I think we are all moving on to AUD in may.
I test May 28, what about you two?
may 28th as well for right now.... i am going to start to study for it come monday, i am taking a couple of days off. i have it scheduled at a center super not convenient, so i am hoping an opening comes up closer to home.
I am taking Audit on May 24th.
im sorry thought this was the BEC section...I hate BEC!
I have BEC tomorrow afternoon and I am not feeling good about it at all. I took a Becker final review last night....thought I did well....hit end... and got a 67! NOT EVEN CLOSE. These calc questions are getting to me. Does anyone know if there is a curve on BEC?
@Shawna- I know the feeling!
The variances are giving me a very rough time. Anyone have any pointers on the "tabular" method becker uses. I know the PURE DADS variances for the most part, but some problems seem to not use that trick. Becker has a page long diagram that I just do NOT get
I can't get the PURE DADS thing....it doesn't work for me. The funny part is that I am getting right answers using a different method to do calcs than Becker shows. I think Becker is confusing on most of section 3 and 5. I took another final exam today...70. Let's hope that the real exam is easier. I doubt it but maybe I will get lucky.
Hello Shawna,
Keep in mind that some of the questions on BEC3 and BEC5 come from previous CMA exams with a high degree of difficulty. Also there is a big possibility that the questions on the test will be easier.
Read carefully, stay positive and if you dont feel good about a question tell yourself its a pretest.
I wish you good luck on your test tomorrow.
Thank you Ed for the uplifting words! I needed it!
i just took BEC last friday and i studied with becker.... i came out of the exam feeling like i could have passed and i feel i could have failed... i felt the same after i took REG as well.
good luck to you guys!!
I took another practice exam last night and got an 80%! I am feeling a little more confident this morning....
Do you mean the Becker CBT Final Exams? Thats great practice for time management, dealing with the unexpected and getting to know how things work (the calculator, ect).
I wish you good luck on your test today.
Yes - the Becker final exam. :-)
LAST DAY OF THE TESTING WINDOW!!! THANK GOD, I'VE BEEN WAITING ON MY SCORES SINCE APRIL 1ST
Sorry Kmath, the testing window doesn't end until May 31. Wave 1 scores will be released mid-May.
yeah i was referring to Wave 1 of course
Last day of the Wave 1 is May 7th
Son of a biscuit...
I took BEC today, and I am feeling....numb, to say the least. All the PURE DADS, and one-two- and three-way variances....NOTHING showed up on the test. No equivalent units, no cost of goods manufactured, one question on costs of goods sold, and unfortunately the test focused on the one chapter I had the most trouble with: Chapter 3 (Finance). I memorized about 5 pages of formulas, and three showed up on the test. The three that showed up were not on the list that I memorized. I can honestly say that it could go either way, but I am not feeling very optimistic about this one. Chances are, I may be doing this again in the next testing window (for the third time...) It is out of my hands at this point.
Every exam is different you should know this by now. Good Luck.
