BEC Exam – Bogus WC

Took the BEC exam today. I was prepared – 1,000 practice MCQ’s + Wiley Book + Ninja Blitz…same formula as I used to pass both REG & AUD on the first try.

MCQ’s in the test started medium, got extremely hard in the 2nd testlet, and then eased up a little in the 3rd. Felt like I did okay – only flagged 3-4 questions each section. Felt like I knew 80% of the stuff pretty easily.

Move on to WC. The first two were fine. Not sure I really nailed them, but I wrote them in an organized way, and hit most of the keywords for the topics. So probably did okay.

But the 3rd WC…I just got angry. The question asked me to write and expand on a topic I had barely heard of before. I did what I could. I organized the points, BS’d my way through it. It was coherent, but kind of vague. When I got back to the car, I looked in my Wiley BEC book. The topic appears on 1 page – for 1 short sentence. That’s it. So obscure. It was in the IT section as well. It just seemed like such a cheap shot to ask that question…and after I felt like I did pretty well on the other parts, now I left feeling totally defeated.

Is it possible they would use a WC as an experimental or pre-test question? Seems odd given that there are only 3 of them. Just wondering if anyone else had a similar experience.

    AUD - 82 (10/13)
    REG - 84 (11/13)
    BEC - 91 (2/14)
    FAR - 81 (4/14)
    (Wiley, WTB, Ninja Blitz)

I'm DONE!!!! Thanks Jeff & all the Ninjas out there who answered questions & encouraged me along the way!

I believe one of them is a pretest. Don't worry too much about it. It sounds like you did your best and that is what counts. I had to BS my way on all 3 WC questions, so I wouldn't worry about it too much. Move on to your final section. Good luck!!

    FAR-91 (10/28/13)
    BEC-87 (11/25/13)
    AUD-96 (01/06/14)

I wouldn't sweat it. The SIMS on BEC only count for 15% of your overall grade. Therefore, if you got 2-3 of 5 points on each you still probably reached the “comparable” category of your score report. If you feel you did fine on the MCQ's than you should be home free.

"I've missed over 9,000 shots in my career. I've lost over 300 games. 26 times I've been trusted to take the game winning shot, and missed. I've failed, over and over and over again in my life. And that is why, I succeed."

    BEC: (54), (72), 80 (losing credit on 02/02/15 - nervous)
    AUD: 78
    REG: (74), 91
    FAR: (71)

That happened to me, as well. I had a WC question that wasn't even on my radar and I thought I bombed because of it. The score release was hell, because it was the infamous computer glitch at AICPA delay last from August. When my score wasn't showing up, I figured I was on the bubble. That's actually what brought me to this site. Someone suggested I look for a forum to find out if others were getting scores. I ended up with an 87. As others have said, the MCQ are far more important than the WC on BEC.

As long as your WC were grammatically correct, it doesn't matter if you told them that you knew absolutely nothing about the topic.

I once answered one WC with “I understand you are interested in _________. Unfortunately, my knowledge of this topic is limited. I will research _____________ and contact you before the close of the workweek..”

I passed the exam with an 85 but I don't have a clue if this one was graded.
