BEC–Financial Management, Capital Budgeting and the like

So my BEC exam is on Feb 28. I originally had it planned in January but pushed it back due to life issues. I started studying last week and got through Economics just okay. Now that I’m getting through the finance portion of it, I’ve hit a brick wall. I don’t understand any of it. I’ve tried reading the ninja book and Cpaexcel and it only confuses me more. Main reason I feel it’s giving me so much trouble is because I have practically 0 prior knowledge of the information. My business classes outside of Accounting were a complete joke (the majors themselves are too) and we were pretty much given the exams the day before in a “study guide”. I’m really down and demotivated to study it because nothing makes any sense. I may as well be reading Latin. The formulas…omg…I almost need it taught from the very beginning in very simple terms….

I need help in figuring out how to get the information to click. If I could just get the light bulb upstairs to go off then I could really dig into the material. Seeing as how it is my last exam, I’d rather not push it to the next window if I don’t absolutely have to. Please someone point me in the right direction.

If you figure out the secret let me know. My technique is going to get through my Becker lectures and the majority of Becker homework then grab the Ninja MCQ test bank to hopefully solidify the concepts. Good luck!!!!

Thanks, Brooks! I found some really good videos from Roger and Becker last night on youtube so I think I will sit through those and take a lot of notes and then hammer the Ninja MCQ. Good luck to you as well!

Any other tips, strategies, etc, will be greatly appreciated!

Having a finance degree and having spent most of my career on the finance side, I completely get it, it takes a while to sink in. The best advice I can give is to shift your focus from memorizing the formulas to understanding the formulas and what the various components are trying to do. It's been a while since I've been knee deep in BEC but if you post some specifics I'd be happy to help out however I can here…

Thanks, How many. It's not one particular issue or question giving trouble. I've been attacking this information the same way as I did the others where I would skim through the text and just hammer MCQ and it would stick. Since I'm severely lacking in a solid base, I realized I can't do that for BEC. So, I'm starting at square one and getting into the nitty gritty details of it all and working my way up to the big picture. Like you said, it can take a while to sink in. I'm hoping the next 5 and a half weeks will be enough to get a decent understanding. Most of my original post, as you can tell, was more out of frustration and not thinking clearly. I appreciate the response!
