I am taking BEC in one week and two days. I am taking the 4 or5 days before my exam OFF so I can just sit and focus on reviewing. I am using Gleim– I love Gleim because it splits the content into many different chapters and subsections so I can know what I need to focus on.

My question is- how many of you have used Gleim? Is it helpful in preparing for the actual exam? My fear is that I won’t be getting questions like I studied… that’s my biggest fear.

Have you guys passed BEC with only using Gleim MCQ?

I have used Gleim exclusively for all the CPA exams. It definitely has been sufficient for me. There is a lot of material and sometimes it makes it difficult to focus on what really counts. My advice would be to look over the AICPA outline and focus a lot of your time on the topics that represent the highest percentage of the exam. I have found across the board that those topics seem to be tested even more than the percentages suggest.

Thank you both for your replies! I am trying to cover all chapters (have a few left) before this weekend to start my review.

@Andyred04- how did you review with gleim? is there a technique you did that you thought helped you?

Wow Andy! That is awesome to hear. I hope I can say the same using Becker. If this section doesn't work out for me again I may have to switch to Gleim. I hope I dont see a fail again.

I used only the Gleim book and mcq for BEC and passed. The test bank is very comprehensive and more than what you will need.

@waffle_house, that is what one of my prof told me too few semesters ago. But the issue is you may overstudy certain concepts that may not even be tested which happened on FAR for me.. But it's better to be over prepared than not be. I too have little over a week (8 days) to go and still got 1 chapter left. Best of luck to you akcpa!

For the Gleim users, how is the book in terms of reading? Do they do a great job on explaining the concepts? Also, are the lectures super long like Becker's where one section is like 1hr30 minutes long.

The Gleim book is very detailed and it covers everything lol. The test bank is what really helped me learn the material since there are things in the book you might look over the first time because it's so detailed.

I use Gleim and nothing on BEC was a surprise to me. However, if you're using Gleim I also highly recommend reading the chapter on internal control components in the Gleim AUD textbook (pretty sure it's chapter 5). It goes more in-depth on COSO components that for some reason it does not in the Gleim BEC book and once I started studying for Audit I realized I could've done much better if I'd just read that section.

akcpa22, I don't follow the suggested study approach for Gleim. I read the text while taking notes on key points and points I don't completely understand, then just hammer MCQs taking notes on the ones I miss or guess. I always do new questions (questions I haven't seen before).

I’m not sure that I would recommend this study method to anyone who asked me but it’s worked for me for FAR and REG so I’m sticking to it. Most candidates like to do MCQs as they go through the text but I only do them at the end.

@Andyred04- how do you specifically choose to do “new” questions or questions you haven't seen? Is that an option in Gleim?

I was not confident walking out of BEC, but I ended up with an 86 and I'm sure that was because of GLEIM. That said, even though I did every single question, I tried to not fall into the trap of spending lots of time on areas I thought wouldn't be tested (and for that the AICPA gods sent me a question on a topic I was absolutely sure they wouldn't bother with.).

My point being that apparently I was able to get to the right answer even though I was often unsure or ran out of my alloted time for answering an MCQ. For some reason I found I needed/wanted a lot more time to think about the BEC questions versus the other two parts I've taken.

@CPA2021 That's amazing! Good for you- I'm glad. That made me feel better. I sit for BEC in 4 days and I still have 3 or 4 GLEIM chapters that I haven't finished. But that's what I'm using today and tomorrow for- then a 2 day comprehensive review. Best of luck on REG!
