BEC, Got to Respect It

So this is my last exam to prep for. Starting with FAR I learned a good study routine for me to retain the material.

What I’m finding out with BEC is that it really is just as hard as the other exams. Maybe it’s because I got into a good rhythm with my last exam and the material came easy that I think the material should come easy on this one as well.

At the end of the day I need to do a gut check after I click “Send Post” below and really add the respect to studying for this exam that I had with the other 3.

Thanks for letting me vent… I really appreciate it.

    FAR - 91
    REG - 88
    AUD - 98
    BEC - 88

The BEC exam is like a Woman. You don't know what to expect and be prepared to be wrong all the time because she'll be pissed at you and won't tell you why : )

    I kid, I kid.

I am studying BEC too and I am completely overwhelmed by the amount of material. It is truly a “catch-all” unit. The pass rate is much higher for BEC, but I have been told not to underestimate it! I am hoping that I can master the material enough to pass. When are you testing? I pushed my test back to July 21.

Almost always from my phone... please excuse my typos!

I thought BEC was so hard!!! dont underestimate this one. The thing that makes it hard is there are so many random topics that if you happen to get a topic you arent too comfortable with, you may end up failing it.

    BEC - 76 (1/24/15)
    REG - 82 (4/13/15)
    AUD - 89 (5/31/15)
    FAR - 78 (8/16/15)

Starting right now I'll be strong
    I'll play my fight song
And I don't really care if nobody else believes
'Cause I've still got a lot of fight left in me

It's the only exam I passed on the first try, with a 75. I don't know why…because I have failed REG 4x. And no, I don't respect REG.

Good luck okcpa2015 – You are almost an Elijah Watts Sells candidate 🙂

@Skynet – You are absolutely right. Been studying for 3+ hours with a 15 minute phone conversation with the wifey in between…got yelled at for sitting in a hotel room (business travel), studying for an exam that I don't need, while being away from my 1 year old baby girl…and somehow I am living in “luxury” while she is “doing” all the work…

    WTF.

I thought that BEC was one of the hardest exams to study for but the easiest to review for. It was simply brutal getting through the material (lectures and first pass at the MCQ) but I didn't find the review of BEC to be that bad. Except for Financial Management. Seriously. Screw Financial Management 😉

I've said this before but I think the reason BEC is challanging at first is because there are about 6 major topics but there is no overlap at all. Each topic is entirely self-contained. This makes learning the material a bit difficult but once you move into the review phase, it's easy to identify which of those topics are weak areas and study accordingly.

Final note: NINJA MCQ for BEC was fantastic. I used Ninja for FAR, BEC and REG. But it seemed to help me the most with BEC.

BEC was the hardest for me to study for… It really didn't feel like I was “learning” the material as well as the other topics. At least with the other exams (for the most part) the material kinda builds off of itself, with BEC it was like starting completely from scratch with each single topic. On test day I surprisingly remembered more than I thought I would as I did NOT feel prepared at all. Good luck!

Several people I know who have taken BEC have said it was the easiest of the exams. For me, it's been one of the more difficult ones. I haven't taken the exam yet, but I've had a more difficult time studying this material than the material for the other exams. I don't know if it's just the fact that I've got one more exam and I'm so sick of studying and ready to be done, or if it's because of the fact that the subject matter isn't my favorite, but I've been having a lot of trouble understanding the concepts. Variance analysis has been the most difficult part of BEC for me.

LastChance, if your wife is stuck at home with the baby, she probably doesn't have 3 seconds to even pee, let alone shower or eat. I am sure that *from her perspective* she is doing all the work, and trust me, I hated studying more than anything and I was so stressed I would have probably had a panic attack studying for REG if not for my honeymoon in the middle of it. You're probably dying to spend some quality time with the baby while she is dying to let you take the baby for a few.

Just trying to help, not to perpetuate an argument. I don't have kids because I really love my down time. 🙂

Anyway, you will finally show REG who's the boss next round, I am sure!

Good luck on BEC, everyone. I am one of the few who thought it was easy (by comparison) but I really struggled with the other 3 sections. My REG book was 44% longer than my BEC book – now THAT'S a lot of material!

@coloradorit – No argument here. She is amazing in how she handles law school with a one year old, all while I travel M-Th. I truly appreciate everything she does, and once this exam is over, I am taking over – e.g., making dinner, dropping baby off at daycare (at least on Fridays), cleaning, and pampering her Thursday evenings to Sunday night…

    But I don't have it easy either…

Yikes, I can imagine you're both probably on very little sleep and very high stress. You will kill REG and it will all be worth it.

And to those of you still on BEC, remember STANDARD price ACTUAL quantity. My cost accounting teacher back in college told a hilarious story about spackle (sounds like SPAQ) to help us remember. I don't remember the exact story but I do remember SPAQ from that, and that helped me through BEC. I was so thrilled to have a mnemonic that I emailed him 6 years later to say thanks again for a great class.

Ugh, I hate BEC! I really want to pass this on the first try. I am SO ready to be done with these exams! And I agree the BEC exam is just like a catch all for random subjects that just didn't make it into the other 3 tests. I haven't even began to review the WC part! Exam is a week from today :
