BEC in Two Days- what to do, what to do…

    Ninjas,

My BEC exam is in two days and I do not know how I should feel about this.

On one hand, I actually feel that I am much better prepared for this than I was for FAR, and I passed FAR with an 80 first try. I haven’t felt a strong sense of urgency with studying like I did for FAR- however, I cannot tell you if this is because I am feeling cocky because of FAR, or if I am well-prepared. Roger says that if you score 85% or higher on an actual practice test (timed, 72 questions), that’s good indication that you should pass the exam. I scored an 85 exactly. I’ve been hitting NINJA MCQs pretty heavily the last two days, typically in 30 question increments, and am scoring consistently at 70%. With regards to the NINJA MCQs, I am still in the “assessment phase”. The type of questions I am missing are pretty consistent- typically, IT and Audit related items, and a few equations here and there that I’ve never seen before.

As far as the WCs go, I practiced one on the first chapter with Roger and got pissed off when it graded me at 20% and stubbornly decided it was a waste of time to practice. Roger says that you are graded on how you write, not what you write (as long as it’s “on topic”), so it pissed me off that in my grading, it showed me what I should have written.

At this point, my plan is to just keep doing MCQs and take the exam on Thursday. What do you guys think? Should I worry about the WCs? My writing skills in a formal setting are above average- do I really need to worry about knowing what I am talking about?

I’ve thought about going back and watching a few lectures on the things that I don’t get, but think reading the book may be a better use of my time.

What are your thoughts? How did you feel going into BEC, and how did you do? I know that statistically, BEC has the highest passing rate, but I also know many people struggle the most with it. I’ve also seen a lot of people do worse on BEC than FAR, which is a concern as well.

For now, it’s back to excessive drinking to get me through MCQs until 1 or 2 in the morning.

I wasn't real familiar with two of my writing topics in BEC. So what did I do? Exactly what Roger said to do. I started writing everything I could in regards to that topic. I tried to insert as many ‘key' words into my paragraphs as I could. I think I finished BEC with 40 mins left on the clock.

When I got my score report back, I was above average for the writing questions. I was kind of surprised, but was obviously happy with my score.

I'd be happy with a 91 as well! How did you feel about the mcqs? Did you feel Roger adequately prepared you for the exam you got, or did you feel you were the beneficiary of a heavily-curved exam?

It was my first exam but I walked out of prometric confident that I passed. If you know your Roger book and feel comfortable with his multiple choice questions, you will do fine. Don't worry about the writing, you will not have any problem with that.

If I were you, I would keep chugging away at mcqs (and beer) and review any topics in the Roger book that are giving you problems.

I'm taking my exam in two day as well. I've been scoring 80-90% on Becker and 75-80% on NINJA MCQs. However, i do still occasionally get random MCQs quizzes on NINJA that I have scored as low as 40-60.

I've done so many MCQs the past week, so I'm getting a lot of repeats. Are you as well? If so, maybe refocus on the notes and make sure you really know the topic well and aren't just memorizing questions. You can also focus on topics that you aren't seeing as frequently in MCQs. That way you ensure you have all your bases covered.

    Passed all sections.

@Kls238 – it looks like we have a similar exam schedule. I'm also taking AUD in August, the 28th. That will allow me to maximize my study time after BEC without having to take an exam on my birthday (29th), or hungover (30th). REG will be in October or November depending on whether I not I have a retake from BEC/AUD. Hell, I might do November either way just to give myself a month off from studying (if I don't have retakes).

My main concern with Roger was the whole repeat question issue. Ironically, I've noticed that a good bit of questions on the Ninja MCQs are also in the Roger MCQs. However, the value-added is the adaptive learning. Given that I am still in the “assessment” phase, I'm wondering if the adaptive learning has actually kicked in yet? Either way, as a whole, I feel the Ninja questions are a nice change up. I find with Roger, if I select a 50 question test, I may get as many as 5 questions twice (earlier, I did a full 3×24 test and there were two-three questions that were in each testlet), but with Ninja, I haven't seen any repeat questions in the same window. I find with both of them, the majority of the questions approach or exceed the “difficult” level, so given that the first 24 are guaranteed to be moderate, that's beneficial. At the same time, repeat questions are beneficial, especially if it is a calculation or an area that I'm really struggling with (in this case, IT/Audit).

From the looks of it, you are going to be just fine with your Becker scores.

Personally, as stated earlier, I feel better prepared for this exam than I did FAR, but that's also because I was expecting a calculation-heavy exam. I got like a 70% on a full practice test using the Roger software the night before the exam. At the end of the day, I keep reminding myself that the score is not a % (as perfectly exemplified by my FAR score – I wouldn't be surprised if I only got 50% correct), that Q2 had a near-60% pass rate, and Q3 has, statistically, the highest pass percentage of the year. I believe that I am on the right track, and will continue to plow through MCQs tomorrow as well as skim the entire Roger book and read thoroughly the sections I am weak on.

@Audit_This, Yea, it does look like we're on the same schedule. I take AUD August 25th. And it will be my 3rd (hopefully last) battle with FAR, but I'm not sure when I'll take it. Hopefully, I'll pass the other two, so I have a long time to study and pass FAR.

Too bad you didn't live in PA. I'll call you up for an AUD study session next week!

    Passed all sections.

Hello Guys. I'm going in for BEC on Saturday. How did you guys studying for the WC? I feel prepared for the MCQs, but man I am using both the Wiley TB (the version that merged with some other program) and Gleim to study the WC – Gleim's WC seem WAY off topic to me. Does anyone know if the WC will focus on topics not specifically related to BEC? And also… what's was your WC study strategy? I try to answer the topics I know… for the ones I don't, I'm just really reviewing their responses…

    AUD - 88
    BEC - 85
    FAR - 86
    REG - 81
