BEC or REG

    Hi All,

I am taking FAR this Friday (wish me luck) and plan to take off from studying this weekend. I plan to take my next test August 14th. I plan on studying around 35-40 hours/week.

From your past experience, which exam would be more worthwhile to take based on the time I have to study. Is this enough time for REG. I assume its too much for BEC.

    Thanks

In my experience, I had to study almost twice as much for REG than BEC. With a little over a month of studying at 40 hours a week, you have a much more of a chance at passing BEC than REG.

But everyone's different. I didn't have much tax education or experience so I found REG to be significantly harder and took me longer to study. I guess it depends on how familiar you are with the material on each of the exams. I personally would need more time than a month for REG, but again, that's just me 🙂

    AUD: 91.
    BEC: 69, 81
    REG: 83 (expired), 79
    FAR: 59, 77

    I'M FINALLY DONE!!!!!

I agree with Marie. Take BEC and give yourself a little more time with REG. Plus BEC has a lot less material and will feel like a nice break between FAR and REG.

It really varies a lot from person to person. I'm guessing you've taken AUD already since you didn't mention it, so assuming you passed AUD, how long did you study for it? If you're feeling OK with FAR, how long did you study for FAR? Knowing how long you've studied and how well you've performed is a much better indicator for which one you should do next than just an amount of time and a test, because each person's study needs can be so drastically different.

To me, that sounds like plenty of time for either one – about 200 hours of study time. But…to others, that might not sound like enough time for either. Just varies from person to person. So, try to look at how much time you've studied in the past and gauge from that how much time you'll need for these last two. I'd say REG is likely to need more than AUD but less than FAR, and BEC is likely to need around the same as AUD or a bit less…but that depends on how familiar you are with the material of both, which one is more your aptitude, etc. Maybe try doing a practice test or set of MCQs for each and see which one seems more foreign to you?

Studying 30-40 hours a week would be doable for REG. Let's say you study an average of 35 hours a week, that's 157.5 hours total, which is perfect for REG. You may not need that much for BEC.

    BEC: 73, 81
    AUD: 85
    FAR: 71, 77
    REG: 74, 75...finally DONE! 😀

*This is my 2nd attempt at the CPA exam. For all of you who have failed this exam many times, given up on it, or taken a break like me, remember that it is still possible to finish what you started...failure is the opportunity to begin again more intelligently 🙂
