I’ve taken AUD and REG and for both the simulations in the Wiley TB and CPAexcel where cut and dry, I was either right or wrong. With BEC I open a sim and my mind just goes blank, they seem so broad and open I have no idea where to even begin. Not to mention I have to self grade my practice sims which is just as hard.

Anyway, anyone have some advice unto how to navigate these?

I think if you're very comfortable with the MCQ content, you should be able to do well on the sims. For one, the sim questions can be easier than what you may be seeing in your practice. Secondly, the writing responses are graded in part by structure. So if you can get comfortable with the structure, you should be good to go.

As long as you can write coherently, you will be fine on the BEC sims. If you get a sim in the exam that asks about a topic you know nothing about or very little about, just write structured and coherently around the topic. Say what you know about the topic or use your best judgement in coming up with an educated response. You aren't necessarily graded on knowing the content in the BEC sims (they understand you may not have taken all other sections before BEC), and your response doesn't have to be a novel – just make sure you have all your bases covered outlined in the question. As long as you can put together a decent email, you will do just fine. I practiced maybe two sims total before taking the BEC exam and I'm glad I didn't spend any more time on them. Another thing that helped me was reading example responses in Becker. Those gave me an idea as to what they were looking for. MCQs are by far the biggest part of the exam, so really focus on those. That's my advice, anyway! Hope that helps.

    BEC - 78 (8/30/13)
    REG - 73 (1/31/14) - 76 (4/7/14)
    ***GETTING MARRIED 7/19/14***
    FAR - after the wedding
AUD - also after the wedding
