I just started the AIS section (B4). So glad to, finally, have a conceptual chapter and it helps that I took AIS for my Master's less than a year ago.

    Here's one:

Security Federated Insurance Company numbers its insurance polices with a 10 character code that identifies the type of property or casualty insurance sold, the policy year, the customer type, and a customer number. Number of this character is an example of:

    A. Block code

    B. Group code

    C. Object code

    D. Sequential code

    A. Transaction processing system (TPS)

    B. Decision support system (DSS)

    C. Enterprise resource planning system (ERP)

    Correct B and A respectively.

Last one (I remember my AIS professor hammered this home in our class even if Becker didn't really cover it):

Abbie mails her phone bill in every month with a remittance advice to the phone company. The remittance advice includes machine readable code that automates the input of the receipt. The remittance advice is sometimes referred with the following term:

    A. Sales order

    B. Turnaround document

    C. Data processing

    D. Echo check

Even though I have no idea what a Turnaround document is, I'm going to go with B because I don't think the other answers on there are right.

    B. Turnaround document

Soon2beCPA: It's pretty simple really. Think of your electric bill. The top half gives a detail of what you owe and the bottom half is torn off and mailed with your check to the electric company. It has your account number on it and it's set up in a specific format so that it can be easily entered into the electric company's AIS. So it's called a turn around document because it goes out and then comes back in.

Taking a break for a bit. I'll hit the next section a bit later.

Each day, after all processing is finished, a bank performs a backup of its online deposit files and retains it for seven days. Copies of each day's transaction files are not retained. This approach is:

    A. valid, in that having a week's worth of backups permits recovery even if one backup is unreadable.

    B. risky, in that restoring from the most recent backup file would omit subsequent transactions.

    C. valid, in that it minimizes the complexity of backup/recovery procedures if the online file has to be restored.

    D. risky, in that no checkpoint/restart information is kept with the backup files.
