CPAin14 – I would check out this forum a few pages back and also the BEC experience thread to get a feel for it. I think MCQ is sufficient to pass but you have to know the material well and it all depends on the questions you get test day. I think understanding the material is key for BEC. My exam was much harder than my exam for FAR. This will be my second round with BEC, I plan on taking it the same weekend as you. Hope this helps!

    AUD - 73,91

Trying to take notes for BEC and it is not working out well at all. I think I am going to ditch note taking for the rest of my time, and just focus on MCQ and anything I struggle with I am going to make it into a flashcard. For some reason I want to write down every single detail in BEC, and my note taking is not as efficient as it was for previous exams. How is everyones' studying going?

    FAR - 93 - 7/1/14
    AUD - 94 - 7/25/14
    REG - 92 - 8/30/14

    @Jspann

I hear ya, taking a ton of notes is my method, but the IT section is sucking all motivation from any more notes. Getting ready to just sit here tonight until I get it over with. was supposed to be done already Saturday.

    BEC – 67, 81(exp)

    AUD – 68, 93

    FAR – 80

    REG – 87

@Jspan same here. What are your plans for the remaining time? (I am taking mine around the same time as you)…I've been just doing MCQs non stop, writing down the ones I miss. Plan on spending my last weekend holed up somewhere.

Does anyone with WTB have a good technique they can share for practicing the WC there? Or is it as worthless at it seems to me? It doesn't even grade you– it gives their answer and then has you grade yourself, and I couldn't even get that to work.

    AUD 84 (1/9/14-Wiley books/TB + free materials)
FAR 83 (5/21/14-the above + NINJA 10 Pt Combo Lite)
    REG 84 (7/9/14-Wiley books/TB + NINJA Audio/FC/Notes)
    BEC 76 (10/5/14-Wiley books/TB + NINJA Audio/FC)

Lynn Manufacturing Co. prepares income statements using both standard absorption and standard variable costing methods. For Year 2, unit standard costs were unchanged from Year 1. In Year 2, the only beginning and ending inventories were finished goods of 5,000 units. How would Lynn’s ratios using absorption costing compare with those using variable costing?

    A. Current ratio, same; Return on stockholder's equity, same

    B. Current ratio, same; Return on stockholder's equity, smaller

    C. Current ratio, greater; Return on stockholder's equity, same

    D. Current ratio, greater; Return on stockholder's equity, smaller

@Gabe My strategy is togo back through the MCQ as many times as possible until test day, and anything I struggle with I highlight, reread, and take notes on and a will lightly skim everything I fill comfortable with. I am going to repeat this hopefully twice before October 6.

    FAR - 93 - 7/1/14
    AUD - 94 - 7/25/14
    REG - 92 - 8/30/14
    BEC - 89 - 10/6/14

There is an ending inventory balance which would mean that using the absorption method, there would be a higher inventory balance since Fixed O/H is included as an inventory cost and not a period cost (used in variable costing). This would also mean that income would be higher using the absorption method since those fixed O/H were not expensed right away. Higher income and less expenses = a lower net income, which then means a lower income gets moved to stockholder's equity.

A company produces widgets with budgeted standard materials of 2 pounds per widget at $5 per pound. Standard direct labor was budgeted at 0.5 hour per widget at $15 per hour. The actual usage in the current year was 25,000 pounds and 3,000 hours to produce 10,000 widgets. What was the direct labor usage variance?

    a. $30,000 favorable

    b. $25,000 favorable

    c. $30,000 unfavorable

    d. $25,000 unfavorable

    Could someone break this downnnnn?

Ok…so under absorption costing…everything is like normal GAAP where

    Sales- COGS where COGS =

    Beg inv

    + purch

    – EI

BUT FOH is also included in EI?

    Under variable costing…

    Sales- all Variable costs= CM – FOH – Fixed S & A= OI

I see where FOH is in variable…but in absorption it's included in COGS?
