sorry I am a bit confused. So you are saying the written communications DO or DO NOT pertain to the BEC study materials?

    AUD - 96
    BEC - 79
    FAR - 75
    REG - 89

PASSED IN 2015 - ALL WITH NINJACPAREVIEW

    FAR - 73, 75 PASSED
    AUD - 74, 96
    BEC - 79
    REG - 89! Done. I'm a CPA!!

@cpain2014 – I would say that out of all the written communication simulations I was given in the BEC study materials, only about half of them actually pertained to BEC material. The rest of them pertained to information in AUD, FAR, or REG.

Out of the 3 simulations I was given in my exam this morning, only one of them actually pertained to information covered in BEC. One of them involved information from FAR and the other one involved information primarily from REG and, to a lesser extent, AUD.

That's why when I was going through the simulations in the study materials I focused primarily on studying the structure and amount of detail and less on what was actually being asked, and left the learning of the actual information up to the multiple choice questions.

    AUD - 83 (Feb 2014)
    FAR - 84 (May 2014)
    BEC - 78 (Oct 2014)
    REG - 72 (Aug 2014), 76 (Nov 2014) DONE!!!!

Damn that question was a beast!

    #626154

Is there another way to solve this question? I don't understand Ninja's solution.

The Frame Supply Company has just acquired a large account and needs to increase its working capital by $100,000. The controller of the company has identified four alternative sources of funds:

Pay a factor to buy the company's receivables, which average $125,000 per month and have an average collection period of 30 days. The factor will advance up to 80% of the face value of receivables at 10% and charge a fee of 2% on all receivables purchased. The controller estimates that the firm would save $24,000 in collection expense over the year. Assume that the fee and interest are not deductible in advance.

Borrow $110,000 from a bank at 12% interest. A 9% compensating balance would be required.

Issue $110,000 of 6-month commercial paper to net $100,000. (New paper would be issued every six months.)

Borrow $125,000 from a bank on a discount basis at 20%. No compensating balance would be required.

Assume a 360-day year on all of your calculations.

The cost of Alternative 3 is:

    A.10.0%.

    B.11.1%.

    C.18.2%.

    Correct D. 20.0%.

    Solution Explanation

The cost for Frame Supply Company to issue $110,000 of 6-month commercial paper to net $100,000 every six months is calculated as follows:

To retain $100,000 for a full 12 months requires two issues at $110,000 each.

    Therefore, interest would be $10,000 + $10,000 = $20,000.

    The cost would be $20,000 ÷ $100,000 = .20 or 20%.

Does anyone know the best way to attack the next 6 days before my exam? should I be reading the text or just knocking out multiple choice questions… I'm not sure about the multiple choice questions bc i won't see the exact questions on the exam just something similar

    Quick question

If you extend trade credit to a vendor with no discount, overall is the vendor paying more or less for the goods purchased?

I know that if there is a discount and it is not taken it costs the vendor substantially more money, but what about without a discount?

    #626157

    @cbones1979

I think the vendor will pay the same amount (not more or less).

Trade credit is “An agreement where a customer can purchase goods on account (without paying cash), paying the supplier at a later date. “

The supplier can offer discount with a trade credit, sometimes the supplier does not offer discount with trade credit. If discount is offered and the customer pays within the discount period, the customer pays less. If the customer pays after the discount period, the customer pays the entire amount that is due not more or less.

Ok thanks. I guess I was looking at it like this.

If i didn't have to pay you 30 dollars for 30 days, i could invest that 30 and gain 2 dollars with it. I would pay you 30 but I would only be out net 28.

Hello my BEC family, just wanted to come in and wish everyone luck and if you have already taken your exam, I truly hope you rocked it!

i have had a whirl wind of a couple of weeks, including a death in my family, busy season in the department picking up (i work in the internal audit department) and tons of other life things that have gotten in the way of studying.

Not sure how much I have retained but I just finished B6. I now have 17 days to review. I'm pretty confident with B4, B5, and B6 as most of that stuff is conceptual so I'll review that first and then I'll begin reviewing the more math intensive stuff next week and spend tons of time on the other BEC sections so that the equations are fresh. I think the review should go well, or at least I'm hoping it does.

Again – hope all is well, and good luck to all! I'll check in every day here on out.
