BEC- Two 74's in a row. What to do next??

I received my BEC score of 74…again. I was really disappointed that I got a 74 on this exam in back-to-back windows. I haven’t received my score report yet,but I’m guessing I got weaker in WC’s. I used Ninja MCQ both times and added Ninja Audio to my last attempt hoping that would get me over the hump, but it didn’t. My question is should I invest in another test bank or continue to use Ninja MCQ test bank? I was thinking I could keep with the Ninja MCQ, just get a clearer understand of why the right answer is right and why the wrong answer is wrong (but I thought I was doing that already). I’ve worked through the questions 2-3 in total between the two exam failures.

Also, any advice on COSO? All I will say is the COSO questions I got on the exam were ridiculous. Seemed to be nothing I had seen before. They were just plain hard this time around, I don’t know why.

I was thinking of adding the Ninja Notes this time around to go along with the audio (But I hear, the notes and audio are the same information wise. So I’m not sure if this will actually help).

I’m pretty sure I can work on WC, but honestly I don’t know how to prepare for them. I would like to think that my writing skills are good (not great). I always have the intro, body, and conclusion. I know they also grade on grammar, spelling, staying on topic, etc..But honestly what are they looking for out of these WC’s???

This is my last attempt at BEC in July or I lose my FAR credit on 7/28. Hopefully I can get BEC on July 25 or 26 to use the full window before my score expires.

At this point, I’m willing to try anything. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks guys.

Congrats to everyone that passed their exams on 5/24 score release.

No advice, but I too got back-to-back 74s and they were for different reasons. I scored stronger in IT and COSO both times. I did better overall on the last 74 which makes me feel like the exam is curved … but I am jaded!

You can do this. You've passed the other sections and you shall pass this one too. A few questions:

    1) How far did you get in Ninja MCQs (adaptive/review/), and what was your final trending score?

    2) Are you using another review course aside from Ninja, like Becker, etc.?

Sorry to hear that MaLoTu. Seems like we both could use some advice. Back to Back failing scores suck, but back to back 74's are just heartbreaking. Don't give up, we will get it next time.

Invest in another test bank. I found that of all the tests, BEC was the most different from the becker test bank to the ninja test bank.

That being said, I feel like BEC was the most “out of left field” test of the four. The IT and COSO questions were all really weird; I used ninja notes and Becker and neither covered that material very well IMO.

e_griffin – I am also going onto my 4th attempt at BEC, last year I got a 67 because I didn't study thoroughly. I am going to try to just go through Becker for the managerial and financial sections and then the rest of the time stick to NINJA MCQ.

    1) My trending was 82%, Avg was 78% I didn't get to the review stage. But I did all the Ninja MCQ atleast one, some I did more that once, then I ran out of time.

    2) I have Yeager CPA review for BEC which comes with the Wiley Books and lectures. I have Ninja MCQ as a supplement. So I re-did the questions they assign for HW and also all the NINJA MCQ test bank questions.

I agree about the COSO questions. I went over COSO a few times in Gleim and Wiley and the questions I got on the exam were completely different. The more-so resembled the questions that I would see on Audit. I just got my score report, weaker in everything but operations management (comparable) and stronger in the WC. I can honestly say that BEC only started clicking during my final review, despite spending over 2 months w/ the material…

I didn't read all the other posts but I would deeply suggest getting more than one test bank. Right now, you need change. For BEC, I actually did around 2000+ questions but they were ALL from different test banks. I feel that every test bank has their own strengths. NINJA is very similar to the exam. Roger's and WTB has ones that can help you bulid the foundation for the basics of BEC. While I know these test banks don't come cheap, I would suggest getting an old WTB booklet online or something. My previous coworker gave me her old book of HW questions and I finished the book (around 800+ MCQs).

At this point, maybe practicing the WCs will do you good since those are areas you can get some free points in.

Also, don't fall in the trap of MEMORIZING your answer. It's okay to know the answer already, but figure out how you can solve it. Good luck on your try, you GOT this!! Seriously, you have done way too much work for this to go to waste.

The questions on my exam were pretty weird none of the material I studied was similar. I suggest using your overall knowledge of the subject and general examination skills try to narrow your choices and try to reason through it. Good luck I hated studying for BEC.

    @e-griffin

Your score history looks similar to mine. Although I thought AUD was the hardest test, I took BEC 3x to pass. The key to my success may not be the best advice. I had so much trouble with Cost Accounting that I literally didn't study it on my third attempt. I focused on everything else. This idea helped me to pass each exam. Areas that I really struggled on i would cover, but I wouldn't burn a disproportionate amount of time on it. Also, I bumped up my MCQ to 3,000- 4,000 questions on all my retakes. This is your fourth time, you know this stuff inside and out. You got it. The most important thing is that you do not lose that credit.

I am now starting to study for BEC as well. I took the test back in February and failed twice (66,73). I am planning to follow the NINJA method because that is what worked for my other exams that I did pass. And just memorize all of the flashcards for “easy” points!
