I am taking BEC next week and I am really stressing out over the written communication portion. I am using Roger CPA review to study but whenever I read the practice written communication questions I seem to find myself confused and with no idea what they are talking about. I then read the solution provided and I see this long and detailed explanation. This would be my first time taking BEC, should I really worry about the written communication portion? I mean I’m not saying I want to blow it off completely but has anyone been in a position where they didn’t know what the written communication was asking for and still managed to pass BEC?

    All comments greatly appreciated

As a small reminder, this part of the test is graded based on how well you write/communicate. I don't think they grade on the information you jot down (at least I don't think they did on mine since my topics were left field topics and I didn't really make sense in at least one of them with the “facts” I was including – still ended up scoring an 85% somehow).

I wouldn't sweat this part, but I know Becker provided examples and showed “good” communication vs “bad” communication and also provided a few techniques as well.

I took BEC last quarter for my first time and all I did was read Becker's advice and practiced only some simulations they provided (not all), more so on the harder topics (my weaker topics) as I find writing out topics helps me retain the information. I would suggest doing the same.

I also used Roger. I didn't study written at all and did just fine. If you confident in your writing skills you'll be ok. I think I knew the answers to parts of the question, but as long as you make sense and use proper grammar you should be fine. Not a bad idea to read through examples to see how answers are formulated.

STRUCTURE IS EVERYTHING! I don't believe the accuracy of your content is important, however the content must be germane to the prompt.

For most non-ESL candidates these are free points provided you're familiar with what university-level writing looks like.
