Hello current and future CPAs!

I’m going to take BEC in one week’s time and I just took the first Becker Final Exam for BEC. Overall, I felt it was fairly easy since more than half of the questions were taken straight from the homework. I completed all 3 multiple choice testlet in about 75 minutes and scored the following:

Testlet 1 – 23/24 95%

Testlet 2 – 22/24 91%

Testlet 3 – 20/24 83%

Obviously I did not do the WC since they are not graded.

My question to all of you is whether you thought the Becker Final Exam was too similar to the homework and not representative to the actual CPA exam? Also how did you score on the Becker Final Exam and what was your actual CPA exam score?

I ran some regression figures on Becker exams vs. actual test scores over at https://www.another71.com/cpa-exam-forum/topic/post-your-becker-final-score-vs-actual-score/page/2#post-428926. There's not a lot of reported data on BEC, but it might be interesting to look at.

That said, if you're getting 90% average on the practice exam and got in the 90s on AUD / REG, I think you're going to be alright.

I haven't started BEC yet, but having done the FAR practice exams, it's a bit odd that they re-used so many homework questions. Are the questions being asked verbatim from the ones done earlier, or are they slightly twisted around?

AUD: May 29th, 2014 - 97!
BEC: July 16th, 2014 - 91
REG: August 29th, 2014 - 88

Wow JamesBJames, your analysis is extremely interesting and leads to some amazing results. I find it interest that for all of the Becker practice exams people score between 70-75 and then average about 85 on the real exams. This means that all of the exams are about the same difficulty to the average person!

To answer your question, on the BEC practice exam, I want to say that 30% of the questions were exact copies of HW problems. 30% were similar to the HW but had different numbers or different tricks. And the rest were unique, never before seen questions. I was disappointed since I remembered most of the answers/calculations from doing the HW, which probably caused me to get a greatly inflated score and does not give me a accurate figure for my actual performance.

I will take part 2 tomorrow and I'll let you know how it goes and whether it is also familiar to the HW.

On other exams, I've gotten anywhere from 10 to 15 points higher than my practice scores (accounting for sims as well).

I tend to think a score in the 70's is a pretty good sign. Even if it's lower than that, questions on Becker practice finals are insane.
