Becker flash cards REG ??

So basically I’m 2 weeks into studying and I’ve been taking notes on each section of Becker’s book in REG. It takes me about 6 hours per section to read and take notes.

When I got through R4 (most of the tax stuff) I started to get worried that I’d be forgetting what I’d taken notes on. So I set aside 3 days and worked through the Becker flashcards for each sectiom , basically memorizing what was on them.

Do you think the flashcards are beneficial or a waste of time? I feel that they help get down the key points of the chapters as I move along with my notes, but I don’t want to do them if they are a waste.. I’m not normally a “flashcard guy” so this is new for me..

I hope they help when I start on mcq’s in about ~week but I guess we’ll see :/

You really need to figure this out yourself…everyone learns differently. I'm not normally a “flashcard guy” either but find the ninja flashcards very helpful. Good luck and if it doesn't work for you ditch it.

Sometimes I'll make myself homework where I create questions to help myself remember topics that I have trouble with. I print off 4-5 copies and fill them all out- they help me infinitely more than notecards.

AUD: PASSED [81]; Expired, retaking August 23rd
BEC: PASSED [83]; Expired, retaking July 11th
    REG: PASSED [83]
FAR: FAILED [64]; Retaking May 23rd

Becker REG flashcards got me through that test. I did them every spare moment I had – kept piles of them everywhere. I was so weak in tax I was scared to death I'd fail.

When I didn't use them for FAR, I found that I needed to do A LOT of review at the end because I did forget the earlier chapters. Lesson learned – I use my flashcards constantly.

    REG - Nov 4, 2013: 88
    FAR - Feb 27, 2014: 86
    AUD - April 5, 2014: 91
    BEC - May 6, 2014: 83

    Florida CPA 24 July 2014
(Done in seven months - thank you Jesus!!)

Well I guess they work as in I am retaining the information on them.. But I'm just wondering if the information included is pertinent to the exam. I would assume it is and I guess it couldn't hurt.. It appears I have answered my own question haha.

In other news, I'm at the stage of feeling guilty when I'm doing anything that isn't study related..

@Aldous_x, I was never a flashcard person myself until REG. However, after I failed REG, I needed to switch up my study habits. I re-watched the Becker lectures and while watching the lectures I took notes on flashcards. I quickly noticed that the live lectures supplemented the book incredibly well and that was reflected in my notes. It's obviously time consuming to watch the lectures, pause them, take notes, and then resume and repeat, but it helped me immensely. I had a huge stack of flashcards so I would review them and memorize as much as possible before doing the multiple choice questions. For the questions that I answered incorrectly, I would go back and review my flashcards. Prior to the exam I would review the flashcards again.

Another thing that helped immensely is that in the corner of each flashcard, I would write the topic that I was studying so I wouldn't confuse the rules as badly among individual, corporate, and partnership tax. It just helped me organize everything in my brain that much better. Good luck!

    AUD: Attempt 1: 60; Attempt 2: 78
    BEC: Attempt 1: 75 (lost credit); Attempt 2: 80
    FAR: Attempt 1: 74; Attempt 2: 74; Attempt 3: 78
    REG: Attempt 1: 76 (lost credit); Attempt 2: 68; Attempt 3: 80

    Finished 11/01/2013!!!
