I usually go through them when the opportunity presents itself. Before I go to bed, when I wake up in the morning etc. As I get closer to exam day, I make sure to go through them all a few times. Before bed is the best time for personally. Those cards will put you out pretty quickly. :)

I hate flashcards. Always have, always will, but that's just my learning style. If you have your own notes I would go through those rather than flashcards, especially if you haven't been using them all along your studying. Looking back, if I had used flashcards as brief 5-minute reviews throughout my days during studying it may have been helpful (but the same would have worked for just reading over notes briefly). For last minute studying, they're probably not so great. For general studying, probably a useful tool.

Everyone has his/her own style of learning, but I find the flashcards very helpful. I can read them on-the-go and generally use them after going through a section in the book, before I work on the pertaining mcqs. I also try to go through them the day of the exam, especially en-route (subway) to the exam.
