Becker Graduate Credit

    Hi,

My company will pay for Becker CPA review courses. I’m missing 18 accounting credits and am looking for a way to fulfill them. I heard that Becker offers credits through DeVry and was wondering if these were general credits or accounting credits. Also, if I had to sign up for DeVry graduate programs to receive the credits or I can just get the credits by signing up for Becker’s CPA review.

    Thanks!

Are the classes offered as part of a degree program? If they're incorporated into a degree that deVry offers they should count. If they don't count toward any degree program probably not.

The classes do count towards a degree program, however, its going to cost you almost twice as much to go through Devry vs going through Becker alone if the review course is all you need. I would call and ask how much Devry charges for their graduate classes and if your employer will cover the full cost then I would go that route. I took the Devry classes back in 2008 and it cost more than Becker as a stand alone.

Also, if you take them as part of the graduate class then you have to get through all the material and have all the homework done to get credit during the time alloted. You cant go at your own pace if you are trying to get credit.

They are suppose to count as graduate credits towards your licensing education requirements. You wont be able to get all 18 from the Devry/Becker program. I think the most they offer for that is 12. I took 3 classes through Devry/Becker CPA review course in order to get 9 credits a couple of years ago. You may be able to get additional credits from their other courses that are not part of the CPA review program. They probably will be super expensive if your firm doesn't end up covering all the costs. A lot of people make up the hours at a community college, which is a cheaper alternative. I am just now getting serious about passing the exams this year so I haven't had a chance to see if the Becker classes actually count. Some people were saying that it could be a duplicate since the classes you are taking are the same ones in your undergrad (audit, tax, etc). I would check with your state board to see if they have any issues accepting similar classes from different institutions. I called mine and they don't think it should be a problem (I'm in GA), but I still worry since i haven't submitted my app yet.

You can sign up through Devry, they have a link up specifically for the Becker stuff. They will treat you as if you are a graduate student and provide you with a success coach and a student advisor. I actually had to go in person to meet with my advisor 🙁 Also, the courses are not graded. It is based on Unsatisfactory or Satisfactory.

Starting right now I'll be strong
    I'll play my fight song
And I don't really care if nobody else believes
'Cause I've still got a lot of fight left in me
