Becker horrible for BEC

I just got out of my BEC exam. My butt hurts immensely. I studied my arse off with Becker and knew things backwards and I got rocked on my last testlet. Besides questions on topics I have blantantly never seen before there were also questions in the other testlets that just looked nothing like anything Becker taught. I am very disappointed.

I used Becker for FAR and AUD (passed both with good scores) and felt they were on topic. BEC however, was just horrible. Everything they asked about COBIT, IT information, among other things were just completely different. It’s like I studied for the wrong test or something. Ive never felt so prepared yet got beat so bad. Writing assignments werent bad but the last 2 testlets were HARD and the 2nd one got me good. Really hoping the 4 questions in each section I had no idea were test questions becaue they were literally a different subject!!!! Anyone else experience this.

The fact that the last two testlets were hard is a good sign, especially if you found the third testlet hard. That probably means you did well on the second testlet, as well. Haven't taken BEC yet, but I will say that I found the Becker material for REG to be absolutely awful and I was not familiar with about half of the material on the exam, but I still ended up with a 98. It's good to vent on this forum where other people know where you're coming from, but just know that you're probably not giving yourself enough credit. 🙂 I would be very surprised if you didn't pass!

I use Becker and felt the same way walking out of BEC in mid-July. Becker was great for far and reg, but stunk for bec and audit.

I used Becker for all four parts and supplemented with CPAExcel for FAR. On every exam there were questions I never heard of. I probably felt the most prepared for REG (since I do a lot of taxes anyway) and AUD, only because it was the shortest and I took a full week off before the exam and crammed nonstop. I felt so lost during FAR it was almost funny.

My grades, as you can see, were all rather close but I passed. Just barely but it counts and I am still stunned, especially about FAR.

I don't think we can trust our feelings about how we did with these exams, particularly if you end up close to 75. Odds are you passed BEC. Good luck to you. 😉

I have to completely agree with Electric. I used Becker supplemented with Wiley Test Bank for all four parts, and prepared really hard. I thought REG was tough, FAR and AUD were somewhat ‘easy.' After sitting for each of those exams, at least I was happy with my study methods and the material I learned through Becker.

Took BEC last week and could not have felt more lost. There were a dozen questions completely out of left field, many questions I had to guess, and one of the most absolutely obscure topics that was covered in one paragraph in the whole Becker book had three MCQ's on the exam. Seriously? Yes, it was like I studied for an entirely wrong BEC exam.

Regardless of my score, pass or fail, I think Becker was a huge disappointment for BEC. I nailed the Becker material and homework. Sadly little of it resembled the real exam.

Well I would like to add that I completely feel your pain with BEC. I too came back today feeling all sorts of anger and resentment towards Becker for leaving me so woefully unprepared. Testlet 2 was bad, and 3 just rocked me hard (ugh).

I spent a solid 3 1/2 weeks studying nearly all day every day using Becker… and I knew those questions inside out. Yet somehow it didn't matter, majority of the major formulas and concepts never even appeared on the exam (typical right?). For what it's worth, I felt the same way after taking FAR, if not worse because I didn't feel at all good about the sims and I felt better about these sims, and I still passed by some miracle.

Not sure how to feel, I felt like a wreck after FAR and passed with an 80. I felt awesome after REG – like Becker hit a home run with preparing me – and only got 2 points higher than FAR. I'll start on audit here soon and try to forget about BEC until the score release

    FAR (5/28/13) - 80
    REG (7/6/13) - 82
    BEC (8/5/13) - 86
    AUD (8/31/13) - ?

I have to respectfully disagree with those who feel Becker did not provide a solid foundation to pass BEC. I used both Becker and wiley to study for BEC. Both sets of material emphasized the exact same concepts as well as Jeffs ninja notes. I was more than prepared going in and felt like I passed coming out. Granted there were things not emphasized in the notes that was tested, I still felt I had an understanding of the material to make an educated guess. A third hard testlet is indicative of a solid performance on testlet 2. Just relax and wait for scores :).

I'd have to agree with dutkas, I used Becker for BEC and only supplemented with Wiley test bank the last 3 or 5 days of the exam to have a different set of MCQ to practice on. I also had Ninja notes and there was maybe 2 or 3 points I didn't recall seeing in my Becker review, but nothing material and I only read through those once. No I did not score in the 80's or 90's, but I passed just as much as if I did. I felt like I was on the fence of passing/failing walking out, because there were a handful of questions I didn't find familiar, but overall the exam didn't feel foreign to me.

You may have been doing well, hence the difficulty of the last testlet. Don't panic yet, you may be surprised on score release day.

    AUD - 90 Pass
REG - 70,61,81 Pass DONE DONE DOOOOONNEEE!!!!!!!!
    BEC - 79 - Pass
    FAR - 70,82 - Pass

I used Becker for BEC and also went through the Wiley Test Bank as an added review. I certainly would have still passed with just Becker, but I do recall one totally oddball fact that I came across in the WTB. I thought, “Geez, I hope they ask me THIS crazy thing” –and they did! So, bottom line, I think Becker DID adequately prepare me for BEC. I'm sorry you didn't come out of the test with a good felling.

For those of you who felt good about BEC and Becker, how would you suggest someone like me who has 3 weeks to spend on their review period?

I feel like a large portion of my time is going to go into memorizing all these formulas and truly comprehending how to do all the tough calculation problems, but I don't want to ignore the comprehension. Progress tests over and over that test on a variety of questions? Focus on B2/B3 calculations and do overall progress tests after? Both?

    FAR: 50, 76!
REG: 74... (ouch baby, very ouch), 76!
    AUD: 65, 91!?
    BEC: 80! Aaaand doneskies!

    May 2012 to August 2013. Can't believe it's over.

Wow I'm glad I am not alone. I am so bummed today. Nothing worse than that feeling I had yesterday. I am taking REG in 3 weeks so I'm not going to dwell on it but damn. I am pissed!

I began studying for BEC but decided to take a break, every question is literally taking me 10 min to figure out so I decide just to click on any answer and just see the solution! It seems way harder than FAR, and AUD.

It's tough to say. Personally, I focused the majority of my time of NPV/IRR, Variances, Cost Accounting Process, COSO Framework, and really any topic I came across that I struggled with I gave more time too. However, I will say that I essentially gave up on OH variances. I simply could not get that down 100%. I had a working knowledge of it but that was it.

The least of my time was given to IT/Econ. Econ because I got it fairly quickly. IT just because I felt like Becker gave every possible detail in the IT environment which was way more than needed to pass BEC. Jeff's notes are really all one needs for the IT section in BEC, in my opinion of course.
