    Hey people

I just wanted to know about the effectiveness of Becker material in your exam review as I am sitting for the exam in 2 months time.

    Hi!

Becker prepared me more than enough for FAR and AUD I think, but not for BEC.

I got 95 on FAR using only Becker, so there's no doubt it is sufficient.

As for BEC, Becker did a good job for most areas, but not for INTERNAL CONTROL/CORPORATE GOVERNANCE.

Since I had known that Becker is not good for those areas, I used Wiley text book to build up my knowledge.

Thanks to supplementing with Wiley, I was able to get 86 on BEC.

I just took AUD using only Becker and I encountered only a few questions that were not covered in Becker, and I believe I did really good on the Exam.

Overall, Becker is at least very effective for the three, except for some areas in BEC.

    Hope this helps

Becker is great. If you follow their study plan exactly (watch all the video and work all of the multiple choice questions) then you will pass. To the poster above, true Becker may not get you a 99 on every section but the point is just to get a 75 not a perfect score, and Becker will definitely get you above a 75 if you put in the suggested number of study hours.

    FAR: 85
    AUD: 80
    REG: 78
    BEC: 82

OP, Becker is great IMO. Expensive, especially for those not in public accounting, but great nevertheless.

To comment on what another poster said, I felt based on the set of questions I worked on when taking BEC that Becker did a great job preparing me.

I do find great relief in hearing the others commentating that Becker does a great job prepping you for the FAR exam. I take it next week and am very nervous on my performance on the exam. I have completed enough questions to get the Becker Promise. I plan to use their progress tests as much as humanly possible to prepare.

    BEC - 85
    FAR - 72, 80
    REG - 79
    AUD - 81

Used only Becker. Let the book burning begin!

I think Becker is great as well. Definitely expensive if you have to pay for it, but it works.

Becker prepared me well for FAR, I felt very confident throughout the first three testlets, and ended up getting a “stronger” rating in every MCQ category of FAR.

You never know what you're going to get in terms of simulations, so there isn't really a great way to prepare specifically for that, although I would definitely work through all of Becker's simulations anyway, it helps solidify the concepts. I neglected some of the ancillary material, which ended up screwing me on the sims, but if I had gotten a different exam, maybe I would have done great on that section, who knows?

I thought Becker did a good job for BEC as well. I wouldn't say the corporate governance/internal control areas of Becker are bad, but they are definitely confusing. Memorization is really your best bet on those sections, IMO.

    FAR - 81 (07/24/2012)
    BEC - 92 (10/06/2012)
    AUD - 92 (11/29/2012)
    REG - 88 (02/28/2013)

    Ethics - 90

    California Licensed CPA - 12/2013

becker is only good if you put in enough hours, I used becker, and it took me approx 400 hours of studying to pass all 4 sections in 4 months. I think the sims on becker are easier than the ones on the actual exam.

    Yes, Becker is good.

ATSU: I bet you still would have passed had you only done BECKER for BEC though.

    REG - Passed!!
    BEC - Passed
    FAR - Passed
    AUD - Passed

Becker was great for FAR and AUD. Very pleased with the results. However, I'm not so sure about REG. I studied just as hard for REG, followed the same routines, etc, but I was blown away when I took the actual exam a couple days ago. If I fail, I might supplement with Wiley or NINJA Notes. Not sure about Becker's BEC, gonna start that next week.

I think Becker does a good job to prepare anyone even if they have not taken accounting courses in years or are just not familiar at all with the material. Its all about putting in the time. The instructors can be annoying at times, but they are effective and know what they are doing. Listen to their lectures, memorize what they say to, and you will be in good shape.

Wish I could say Becker is worth it, but I've used this program for the AUD (70), FAR (63), and REG (56) and have not passed, despite reading, listening to the lecture, making notes, doing MCQs and simulations for 3 months for each part. For Audit, I missed by five points, but for REG, none of the simulation covered the topics in the Becker course.

I'm looking at different options as maybe I'm tired of listening to Tim and Peter.

Did you really do all that studying for 3 full months for each section? If you read the book, watched the lectures, took good notes, and worked all the MCQs and SIMS, it's almost impossible to fail. I almost never read the book and felt that watching the lectures was a total waste of time. I spent most of my time & effort on MCQs and understanding WHY I was getting questions right or wrong. Is it possible that you just started memorizing answers instead of understanding the reasoning and concepts behind each question? Also, no section should take more than 6 weeks. I did AUD in 4 weeks while working, and that was complete overkill.

Hell, I have it easy. Some people who post on this forum not only work, but they're married, have kids, and a number of other commitments. You should start from scratch and improve your study habits (I don't know how — based on your description, you're doing everything correctly).

I am starting fresh. I graduated in 2005 and sat for 2 parts of the exam. I passed them oth evenutally but then I let them expire as I got involved with a very lucrative industry that did not require a CPA. I got comfortable; the bottom fell out. SO here I am back to square one. I am going to crush these things one at a time. I have already come to grips that I will not have a life from now until July but then I should be a CPA by then. All I did was lectures, and TONS of multiple choice. I didnt even do a final review or sims (just learned how they work)….I just pounded the multiple choice. Must have went through the homeowrk 3-4 times. But I am not taking that approach this time. This time I am going to do all of the steps and not make myself want to blow my computer up everytime I think of a rubber chicken (that guys neckte)

@soprano365 What I have come to grips with is that there is a difference between studying and absorbing the material. You can study all day long, but if you have to understand the why and the why not. I am not sure if six weeks is enough to pass a part of the CPA for everyone. I think that the study time depends on how long you have been out of school, etc. Also, I have learned that a lot of people who pass a part use Wiley or Ninja to supplement their studies. The supplement approach worked for me for FAR and BEC. I just took REG – if I don't pass it will be because I need to work on time management not because my materials were inadequate.

    Much success….
