I was just wondering, How effective is the Becker online class? I prefer live class over online but they don’t have live class until august for the section I want in my area. Please suggest guys. thanks in advance.

It's a personal preference. I went to some classes and it was a waste of time. They've only got four hours to go through lectures and it was way too fast for me. With the videos at least you can re-watch, pause, etc.

I've heard the classes aren't worth it, especially if don't live near where the classes are held. I've started on FAR with the self-study videos and have had little problem thus far. If I ever get stuck on a topic I can just search the forum for help.

Agreed with Tina. I went to a few, but it's really not for those who work full-time, IMO. Sometimes they would point out mistakes in the book, or other mnemonics, but besides that it would be waaaay too fast and I couldn't keep my attention span, after working all day, driving there in rush hour, and picking up dinner at the gas station down the street.

The other thing is sometimes we would get off track and it would be like 9:50 (class went until 10) and sit there and talk about parking tickets or something. That really pissed me off – I'm not there to sit around and B.S.

I really like to be able to sit and pause or rewind when I need to, in class it was yadayadyyadayada….EVERYONE GOT IT? OK, MOVING ON.

I've never been one who learns well in class, the whole time I am watching the clock waiting for freedom.

My “live” Becker class was just an instructor from the Acctg dept showing the videos. No advantage at all except that I needed one more accounting elective to get my Master's.

I'm doing the online class right now (day two!) and so far I love it (as much as you can love this sort of thing, I guess). I need the structure of a class to tell me when to do things, as opposed to the self study method where you have to be your own boss. But the online class is very flexible. You watch two lectures a week and do the accompanying homework and quizzes, but you can do them anytime, from any computer, since it's web based. They also send you the books and the DVDs. What I like the most about watching the lectures online is that they are broken down into tiny 2-3 minute increments, so you can start or stop anytime, and the website bookmarks where you stop. I never have the excuse of “oh, I don't have four hours to sit down and do this” because I only need short periods of time to be able to get stuff done.

I have no experience with the in-person class, since it's only offered once a year in my city, at a time when I can't go.

But thumbs up on the online class so far.

I would stick with the self-study. You pay all that money anyways…might as well get the lecture given to you by the national instructors.

That, and I never had the energy to sit and listen to someone for 4 hours straight. Easier to split parts up over the week and tackle each section in little chunks.

You have to have discipline though to stick to your schedule.

    A - 93 - 10/25/2011
    R - 92 - 1/17/2012
    B - 91 - 5/31/2012
    F - 93 - 10/1/2012
    E - 90 - 11/17/2012

    Processing...

I did the live classes and it sucked alot to be there from 8-5 on a saturday but it forced me to watch the videos and i started passing sections after i went through the live classes..

if you have the willpower to sit at your house and power through the videos yourself then do it at your house…
