Becker students and FAR study time inquiry

I just received my Becker materials and I have started studying. It appears that Becker doesn’t incorporate time for reading. So at 15 hours per section allocated to lecture, HW and review, where is the time for reading? People say 400 to 450 hours of total study but with Becker this obviously doesn’t count reading time.

So now to my question: Is anyone reading for FAR word for word or are you guys more so reading only problem areas and just concentrating on making notes while watching lectures, doing HW and review?

I haven’t scheduled yet but initially planned 6 weeks. With all this extra time beyond Becker’s 15 hours per section for reading, I’m now thinking I might need 8 weeks.. Any advice would be much appreciated!

My first time through FAR I read the chapter, viewed the lecture, then reviewed what we highlighted. This took a while. I failed the test by 2 points. I went onto BEC. I stopped reading the chapters and only viewed the lectures and then reviewed what we highlighted. I passed BEC (barely but who cares).

I then went back to FAR and reviewed my highlighted notes from the lecture and did a ton of MCQ and SIMS. Passed.

So for ME, I feel viewing the lecture, reviewing what you I highlighted, then doing a ton of Q's helps me the best.

    AUD - 84, 03/2015 (first try)

I got 99 problems but the CPA ain't one.

Hi! I am studying for FAR right now.

I have been reading the chapter first on my own, then viewing the lecture, then the corresponding MCQs. Repeat.

    I do the SIMs last.

I have no idea how effective this is, as this is my first time studying.

I think it depends on how familiar you are with the contents. Normally, I would first listen to the video and do the highlighting that Tim Gearty make for a living. Then if I feel comfortable with the contents, I would just review the highlighting and do the homework. If I don't feel comfortable with the contents, for example, the government accounting. I would read word by word.

Thanks everyone! I will be watching the videos first and review the highlights. Then read word for word on the material I'm not clear on. Reading the whole book word for word takes WAY too long and I feel it would only add to an increased probability of burn out. I know that working the questions over and over will be the best way to determine what I need to review on as well.
