So I’m just about done with Roger’s lectures for BEC. This is my fourth and hopefully final exam and I feel like this dude isn’t speaking English about 75% of the time! I just started studying for this animal on Sunday and I am very lost. I took classes on these things almost a decade ago…my notes are being poorly taken because I can’t understand what he’s saying. I honestly feel like I’m wasting my time watching these lectures. Haven’t felt like this in the previous exams…at least there was some ebb and flow to the information. My exam is July 19th. This time, I just want to go hard on the NINJA Notes and MCQ while I go through Roger’s book periodically. I aim to study for about 25hrs per week until test day. Is this a sound strategy? Please help!

    FAR - 75 (2/25/16)
    AUD - 80 (4/8/16)
    REG - 80 (6/10/16)
    BEC - 79 (7/19/16)

bec is all over the place and the scary thing about it is that by the end of your review Roger will make perfect sense.

miles has some excellent bec videos on youtube.

ninja mcq and notes are enough but they can take awhile without some additional resources

read through some of these too: https://www.coso.org/guidance.htm

As a Roger's user for BEC, I don't think it's THAT good for BEC. But I would hit the NINJA MCQs hard for that section. If you can average at 75 and above, you'll pass.

I've posted this in other threads, but I felt Roger and Ninja didn't prepare me well enough for the COSO questions, and I had a bunch of them on my exam. If there's anything involving calculations he does a great job simplifying how to answer the problem, but when there's topics that involve a lot of detail, like COSO, he tends to just cover the most important parts and not focus on the details as much. Unfortunately, my exam had some COSO questions asking things I never came across while studying.

Thanks for the advice, folks. As I work on NINJA MCQ, the corporate governance section is almost remedial…either that or I remember a lot from Audit. I can see how you can get lulled into a false hope thinking that you know COSO and then getting surprised during the exam. @moniker you suggested reading from the COSO guidance website, I will definitely go over some of those documents. Any other tips? I see the words COSO, IT and variance get thrown around all over the BEC review area…should I spend the majority of my time in these areas?

Let me just say this. I WISH my exam was COSO-heavy. Mine was computations out the ying-yang. I really wouldn't skimp on anything.

the exams cover the areas presented in the AICPA CSO so you have to prepare for everything. in ninja mc's as you review some topics feel more heavily represented because the adaptive feature tends to hit your weaker areas unless you customize your sessions.
the coso documents did help me prepare plus my career was IT and that helped.
not sure what review you are using but in ninja mcqs i kept checking my detailed progress report and made sure all sections were above 75% by the time i took the exam
it is important that you understand the calculations as you review.
the mcqs are worth 85% and wc 15% so study to very well on the mcqs and do the writing to not lose points. there are lots of posts on the writing that you can find with the search function above.
    dig in and good luck!

Look back, there's a lot of threads with COSO links posted. There's stuff like this all over the place:

    https://coso.org/documents/COSO-2015-3LOD-PDF.pdf

A lot of times I don't get much out of the lectures until I've done the questions. A lot of time that means looking at the question answers to do the initial learning of concepts. If I don't do that the lectures can sound like blah-blah-blah.

I hated BEC, I knew I was gonna hate it, because I hate cost, but it was worse than I thought. The other sections I've felt things coming together because things were all related. BEC was just a lot of silos and no cross-walk. Felt horrible coming out of the exam – got an 86. I'm sure the writing part is what saved my grade.

And Gleim had a ton of IT questions.

I'm 13 hours into NINJA and I am absolutely lost. On REG, I was able to at least find most of my answers in Roger's book, giving me something to read over and study. With just about everything in BEC, I can't find references to it from Roger…from globalization concepts to interest rate problems to exchange rate concepts to everything in between. It tells me that he did a horrible job in going in the depth necessary to pass this thing…it appears as if he just skimmed everything. Either that or NINJA MCQ goes into way too much detail. Either way, I'm panicking. Should I be feeling this way after the first week?

I have to agree @unexperienced- it is like Rogers just glossed over everything… I finished the Roger lectures- he may as well have been speaking greek to me- it was kind of like the teacher on Charlie Brown whawhawha whaha … and now I am starting in with MCQ's and they are seriously way more in depth than anything Rogers covered or has in the book… I can't find references to half of it. I felt this way with the material in FAR as well… my exam was way more detailed on subjects than Roger even covered or touched on…

BEC is seriously kicking my A$$– too all over the place— grrrrr just need to grind it out…. but I am hating every single minute of it… at least with FAR I felt like the information was somewhat useful this is just drudgery

And they ask me why I drink

    BEC 71, 82
    AUD 75
    REG 75
    FAR 61, 69, 83

and they ask me why I drink...

FAR- 61-next time I'll ask for lube instead of a calculator
REG-75- Never been so happy to see such a low grade
    BEC- 8/11
    AUD- 9/2
