Jokes aside, have you done any research on your State Board of Accountancy website or anywhere else? That'd be a good place to start. Also, you could call the AICPA for any clarification.
P.S.- I don't think you should be looking for an "excuse." If you have a legitimate reason for needing it extended, I'd voice that. But otherwise, I don't see any "excuses" working well.

offlineMemberI've had a former coworker that got hers extended...but she was diagnosed with breast cancer in her 18 month window & had to show doctor tests to prove it.

offlineMemberI agree with DocHalladay. If you have a legitimate reason for needing an extension, then go for it. But I don't think they will accept just not passing or taking a voluntary hiatus (not that that's why you need an extension). But a serious illness or something along those lines would probably do it.
