    My Becker expires this month and I haven’t even started FAR, which is probably a good thing because my textbook is the 2013 version.

    Before I repurchase Becker FAR, I thought I would ask your suggestions on which review course is just as good (or even better)? What do you recommend?

    Thanks!

    If you are organized and can be focused (I lack both qualities), I would suggest Wiley book + Ninja MCQ. I passed FAR on my 5th attempt with these two and raised my previous score of 71 to 83.

    idk about Wiley but I like the becker-ninja combo

    however, ive been completely neglecting becker and trying desperately to get thru all the ninja questions. I feel that's my best shot based on other people's responses in the past! good luck to you!

    PLEASE don't pay for Becker FAR again. If you schedule your exam, they will give you a one time extension until the day after the exam. I just did this and I'm taking mine 2/19. Just call them up and they'll send you and e-mail. You just have to send them your confirmation. And, you can supplement with something else if you still want to.

    FAR - 71, 73, 72, 73, 77!!! DONE!

    @MonkeyVA

    Will they give me an extension for FAR if I also requested an extension for REG?

    I'm also bothered by how my very old 2013 textbook is missing so many pages from the new Becker textbook… Is it possible to print out pages?

    @howmany74s

    I heard Wiley goes too much into detail so it takes tough dedication to get through it… Can you comment on that?

    @Determined CPA

    Thank you!! Good luck to you as well!!

    Ohhhh I don't know. It's worth asking though 🙂 If it's a different exam, they might. I think you can look at the online text and print it out there. I just use the old book, though.

    Determined CPA – I'm currently using Becker for FAR and saw you recommend using Ninja in conjunction. How exactly would I go about incorporating it into my studying? Does the Ninja FAR mimic the Becker flow of material?

    Thanks

    Drping11 – ninja doesn't mimic becker at all. I don't think it really mirrors any of the other study materials, and is a study material in its own.

    With that said, I find it most helpful to do the ninja questions once I have an understanding of all the material. For me, I cant just attack questions and get a passing score. I need to understand. So my advice is go through becker, get an understanding and then switch over to ninja for the questions. I still do progress tests in becker to keep variety.

    Oh ok so what your saying is do the full Becker FAR book and then attack the NINJA MCQ's?

    I'm going to try the Ninja Combo route only. Loving the FAR textbook so far. Way better than Becker.

    I have the ninja book as well and use that. I had originally purchased becker before the ninja came out with the books so I had it already which is why I use it.

    @Drping11

    So I don't know if it's just because I have terrible reading comprehension or what, but Becker just isn't intuitive. It's almost like they feed us information in fragments and incomplete sentences (even though that's not the case since Becker is grammatically correct).

    But when I read the ninja book, it's just so… fluid. It's like reading a novel. I find it so much easier to put down Becker and go “Why is there so much stuff? Why are you telling me so much detail small things like years and number of people on the FASB board, yet not enough information on the ‘meaty' stuff?”.

    The ninja MCQs are godsent. Within the MCQs there are links to explanations for terms and concepts right in that MCQ — basically it links right to the textbook specifically where the answer can be found. Whereas in Becker, you're like “wait, where in the freaking huge book was this covered? let me spend my good 20 minutes looking up where Becker told me this information, because I don't even recall Becker telling me this”.

    How long did it take for you to go through the whole FAR?

    Also how long in advance did you pick a date to sit for the exam?

    Thanks

    I liked Rogers Cram course for FAR. I used that along with CPAexcel's MCQs. I purchased Becker twice… I wouldn't recommend that to anyone!
