So I am one week from FAR exactly…feeling ok, I don’t know if anyone ever feels great about FAR. Trying to get a feel for how people use their time in the final week and what people have had success with…any responses appreciated!

I am planning to just do 30 MCQ sets over and over on Becker and NINJA MCQs, with some SIMS worked in and reviewing notes here and there.

    What has worked for others?

    FAR- 90
    AUD- 95
    REG- 10/12 (tentative)
    BEC- November TBD

You have laid out a good plan. Practice as many MCQ's as you can. However, make sure you focus on your weaker areas and sections that are heavily tested. During my study period, I didn't look at one SIM. However, during final review I reviewed like 2-3 SIMS to get a feel of what could be thrown at me. I am not saying my approach was right but once you have a good grasp of the journal entries and concepts, spending a lot of time on SIMS might not be worth it. I re-wrote the ninja notes coupled with mine, but not sure if that really helped. The key is to do as many MCQ's as you can, and then some more. Good luck!

I like to re-do all the MCQ's I got wrong the first time through. With FAR, that was A LOT! Every day of my review, I also made sure to do at least one set of 30 questions from the entire MCQ pool just to get a feel for how the test would make me focus on different subjects.

I also re-did most of the SIMS in the WTB or NINJA software to test my understanding of those concepts. While I didn't get SIMS that were exactly the same, I did get some that covered similar material, so this was very helpful. The SIMS had me a little worried and the extra practice kept me calm and collected on test day.

How long of a review period did each of you do? As I have had this conversation with several on here that use CPAexcel, it has been all I can do to try and not fall behind on current lessons. I started my journey on 6/1, and test on 8/31. I'm a little worried that most on here started some sort of review, long before I have (I plan to start an intensive MCQ review now for a month). Thoughts? Am I behind the 8-ball here?

What do they call an accounting person, who only managed a 75 on all four parts of the CPA exam....you got it, CPA!!!

My final review (using only Becker) consists of skimming over each chapter and then reworking all of the homework for each chapter. I only work the SIMS on the first go through. For FAR my final review started about 2 weeks before the exam, 1 chapter a day and then I would take the practice final exams a couple of days before my test. I never study the day before a test so my mind is completely rested on the day of. The total time I spent studying for FAR was about 7 weeks.

    AUD 4/4/2014 - 97
    FAR 5/29/2014 - 97
    REG 7/10/2014 - 90
    BEC 8/1/2014 - 89

I did exactly what @jobach did for AUD. Skimmed the book, re-did all the HW, said “screw you, SIMs,” and just went from there. I felt a lot more confident going in to the exam than I did for FAR.

For FAR, I didn't bother re-reading anything and just did endless progress tests until I felt that I was ready. This may or may not have caused me to do horrible on a SIM that probably wasn't pre-test.
