Best Month to take FAR exam?

    Hello Everyone,

I am recently started prepping for the FAR section of the CPA exam. Is there a certain month that is favorable for FAR test takers? Not sure if this is a “dumb” question or not as I am new to this board and CPA prep. I have heard a lot of rumors about taking certain parts during certain months and wanted to see what your opinion is regarding this.

Which month should a person who is taking the first part, for the first time, of their CPA exam take it? Or does it not matter?

    Thanks in advance everyone!

    FAR:TBD
    REG:TBD
    AUD:TBD
    BEC:TBD

I am using Becker self study, ninja blitz and Wiley (I am using the paperback version of the testbank)

    Brief overview of study method:
    1. Skim through chapter quickly
    2. Watch lecture videos
    3. Take a lot of notes on what the lecturers emphasize
    4. Complete half HW after lectures half after rewriting notes

There are quarterly stats released if you wanted to go based on that…that being said, its almost always 49%, so I doubt it would make much of a difference.

FAR is universally recommended to take first since it is such a monster and it really sets the tone as you move forward…I did not heed that advice and I am currently wrestling with it. Of course this is always with a grain of salt, I had an opportunity to take REG while taking an advanced business law class and seized my opportunity to have the extra help.

    REG- (1) 76
    FAR- (2) 64, (5)74, (7)83 (Over achiever!)
    AUD- (3) 70, (4) 75
    BEC- (6) 75

I would schedule FAR at a time where you minimize the amount of time you have to wait until the score release date, so you can get back to studying as soon as possible.

Quarter 3 had the highest passing rate for FAR in 2013.

I spoke to an ancient wise man who sent me on a mushroom induced journey through an ancient forest to find the key to passing the CPA exam. A talking spider monkey told me to throw the last of my drinking water in the dirt to find what I was looking for. So I followed his instructions and the following message appeared in the soil:

"Do 5000 multiple choice questions for each section"

I would align it so the tougher exams work best with your life/work schedule. Weddings, vacations, holiday events, work load, these things can all be a huge distraction when studying for the exams. I would chalk up any difference in the pass rates from Q to Q to be statistical noise….

    MBA,CMA,CPA, CFF?, ABV?
