Has anyone have any experience for international assignments (global tour)? I just completed my first year at a big 4 firm. During my annual review, my relationship manager told me that if i am keep my rating, above average, I will be eligable to participate in a 2 years internaltion tour. I am very interested in this opportunity but not sure about the PROs and Cons. Any information is much appreciated.

Haven't done one yet but I work with plenty who have. If you want to move up fast, a global assignment is good move. There are two types of overseas tours, strategic and developmental. Strategic means the firm wants you to go for the firm's benefit so they pay for everything and hook you up with lots of perks. Developmental means you want to go for yourself so a lot of the moving costs, cost of living, etc is your responsibility. I think whether you go for strategic or developmental reasons, you get a free year membership to rosetta stone to learn the language even though my firms global language is English. The higher your level, the easier it is to get on an assignment so if you're a senior manager/director than you can pretty much pick your country. It's even easier if it's with a client you already have in the states and your going to one of the other international locations. I'm looking to do one in the not-too-distant future and taking my wife and kids.
