    "Let me tell you something you already know. The world ain't all sunshine and rainbows. It is a very mean and nasty place and it will beat you to your knees and keep you there permanently if you let it. You, me, or nobody is gonna hit as hard as life. But it ain't how hard you're hit; it's about how hard you can get hit, and keep moving forward. How much you can take, and keep moving forward. That's how winning is done!"

    I would say check Glassdoor for your area, but most major cities, I would say 100-125k is a safe assumption.

    Staff, 1-2 years?

    also is it true that in order to go from a second year to a third year, you must have your cpa license ?

    I definitely wish I was one of those people who got all 4 exams done in 4 months, but unfortunately LIFE (being a newlywed, stress, adjusting to newlywed life and cpa exam study life, as well as starting a job with a Big4 which I am very happy about) got in the way, just happy that I am passing period!!

    @kpb it depends on the firm.

    Normally 2-3 busy seasons at associate, then 2-3 as a Senior Associate, then 3 as Mgr, 3 as Senior Mgr, then Director/Partner.

    You cannot make Senior Associate at PwC without having some certification (most likely CPA, unless you're working in a specialized role where a CISA or some other cert makes sense). Some of the other firms will allow you to make Senior Associate without your CPA; I was told by a friend at EY that you can make Senior, but cannot make Manager, without your CPA there. I believe KPMG is similar to PwC, and not entirely sure about Deloitte.

    bpk is correct…although I'm sure the time in Senior Manager varies, and is more likely than not will be longer than 3 years

    KPMG requires CPA to promote to Manager. You do not need it for Senior.

    Deloitte also requires CPA for manager, not for senior. However, fun fact, “Seniors” with a CPA are titled “Senior” and those without are titled “Audit in Charge”, the firm's way of publicly identifying you as a non-CPA LOL

    If you are working in tax, is a EA enough to get promoted to Manager?

    No. As others have mentioned, you more than likely need a CPA if you are working for a Big 4 to be manager.

    @sandro

    It was explained to me that you need to be a CPA to become a Manager because you begin signing audit reports and officially representing the company. It is more of a legality, than the actual accomplishment.

    @juuustin,

    My question was more towards the tax field because I personally have zero desire to work in auditing. Thank you for your response.

    At EY you can make manager (in tax) if you have your CPA license, are an EA, or have passed the bar exam.

    To clarify, at EY, an EA is not typically going to cut it. CPA or bar is the usual at my office (tax). You won't get away with just an EA without a big headache. Those are more of a case by case basis.
