Big 4 Offer GPA

Hey guys. So I got an offer from a Big 4. However, I am a little worried. When I applied, my resume stated that I went to community college and then transferred. The GPA listed on my resume is a 3.6 (combination of both community college and university). I also submitted my unofficial transcripts when I applied. I am worried that when they ask me for my official transcripts next week when I sign their offer, they will notice that my university GPA is only 3.2. Will they decline their offer? Like I made sure I put my community college on my resume so its not like I was trying to deceive them. Any thoughts?

Did your unofficial transcripts indicate CC vs university? If so, you should be fine.

It might not matter, but it was deceptive. Think about it. Is it their job to calculate and figure out where the 3.6 is from or is that your job to explain it?

If the GPA was listed under the university and implied it was the university GPA, then that might be deceptive, but if it's listed as overall GPA then they should assume it is the GPA for all combined, so I don't think it's necessarily deceptive.

If it's misleading, what do you think they should do?

The purpose of the way the GPA was presented was to try and hide a decline in performance. It can definitely be misleading. It is up to you to decide if you want to disclose this or hope that they do not notice or care. If they do notice, they may start to question your integrity and how presentation of other facts on your application may have been manipulated. Be cautious about what you plan to do or plan not to do. You may want to talk to someone in your career center if you are still a student.

Don't worry about it. I had a very similar situation when I was starting in public. I listed my major GPA, but not my cumulative GPA. I messed around my first couple of years and had a horrible GPA, then took some time off and had to re-build my transcript. It happened slowly but surely and now I work at a Big 4 and no one has ever asked another question. 🙂

That's always a tricky situation. Were you open about it during interviews or to HR? Did they even ask?

As a side point, when you submit transcripts, the purpose is to make sure you are in passing standing and that your stated major/school/etc line up… it's not to validate your resume, unless they are specifically looking for that for some other reason. They verify things like school/major/etc also through the background check process.

I'm not at a big four (within top 10 though), but I did exactly the same thing you did when I submitted my resume. It didn't cause an issue (they didn't even ask about it actually), and I'm currently 4 months into work.
