Big 4 – Private Company Services

Does anyone know what exactly Private Company Services (PCS) entails?

I hadn’t heard about it until recently, but my initial thought is that it would be the same thing as any other practice in the Big 4, but for non-publicly traded companies… but then again don’t audit, advisory, and tax services also service non-public companies??

I can’t find too many resources online, but it looks like PCS involves providing tax, audit, and advisory, but then that begs the question as to why there is an entirely separate practice for private companies.

There are many areas for accountants to specialize in. You can think of Private Industry Services as an industry area much like finance, industrial products, healthcare, technologies, etc. Each industry requires very specific accounting knowledge. I know many people who work at the big 4 who work only in a specific industry. I think the big 4 realizes that the need for a private company is very different from the needs of a public company. Take compliance requirements for a SEC traded company vs. a closely held company for example. I know at least 2 of the big 4 has private company practices that serve smaller companies and high net worth individuals.

    REG: 86 8/3/13
    BEC: 85 8/31/13
    FAR: 87 10/27/13
    AUD: 90 11/30/13

    Seems like you know already?

You can be in audit, but within audit you might be in pcs or industrial services.

    Same goes for tax.

Isn't pcs a pdub jargon anyway?
