    Good afternoon,

I am trying to get a general idea of whether I am getting a fair offer from a Big 4 firm or not. The recruiter asked my past salary, I was honest with her (55k) and she said the range for this job would be 61-65k for a 2 year exp. associate.

Can anyone let me know if this is comparable to the other Big 4 firms hiring in NYC? I checked Robert Half’s salary guide and the low end for salaries for this position at large firms was 63k. Included was a salary adjustment for NYC of 1.4 brinigng the total to around 88k… Is this overstated? any hlep or guidance would be greatly appreciated.

I have 2 years of private industry exp. and am half way to my CPA (FAR pass and I’m pretty sure I passed AUD).

I am recently married and my wife will be in school for the next few years and I am worried about our financial stability if I am in NYC… I have never lived in an area with such a high cost of living and have no idea what to expect or how to estimate cost v. salary.

    PLEASE help 🙂

    10/13/13 - FAR *PASSED* 76
    12/01/13 - AUD *PASSED* 84
    01/09/14 - BEC *PASSED* 84
    02/27/14 - REG *PASSED* 81

Yah, first year associates in NY are usually $57-59k from what I hear. So considering a range of rasies, $61-65k (with highest rated associates being 65k) sounds about right.

And all the Big 4 will have similar if not identical pay structures. Ant the Robert Half salary guides are notoriously overstated form what I've been told. Makes sense since they're trying to convince you that there is something better out there than your current situation.

awesome, yeah that does make sense.. I am sometimes honest to a fault and when I told a recruiter I had a few other options in mind she tried as hard as she could to talk me out of looking at something with Big 4.

I'm still worried about my COL but at least a little relieved that what they offered is on par.. much appreciated
