Big 4 W-4 Forms

I am trying to fill out the W-4 forms to submit electronically, but the form will not allow me to claim any allowances. I am trying to type in the number 1, but the form keeps reverting the number to zero. The instructions are to submit the form electronically and not to make any scratch outs on the form, so I cannot change the number to 1. Are any other new hires having this problem? It also wants me to claim zero exemptions on my state form. This is so frustrating.

    Hey man,

The W-4 has a worksheet attached, where you enter the data to determine whether your exemptions are 0, (or 1, or 2, or 3..) For example, one of the questions will ask you to put down ‘1' for yourself as a personal exemption in the worksheet. They will ask subsequent questions to determine if you are eligible for more.

I tried to fill that out, but every time I try to enter a 1, the form reverts it to a 0.

So it's an issue with your browser or their site. Ask them.

Thanks, I figured out a way to edit the text so it would stop reverting.

How much of a difference does it make when you choose 0 or 1 for your allowances. I am single with no dependents and have not been employed this year, but I will start work next month.

I am starting to wonder why they would automatically make people choose 0 instead of another number in the electronic form.
