Can anyone recommend books about various accounting careers in detail to avoid costly mistakes? Late 20s.

    Thanks.

Not a book but Reddit Accounting has been pretty helpful in understanding various accounting career paths. Tons of threads with anecdotal experiences regarding careers in public, private, and government.

Agree with Spartan. Everything I know about accounting careers I learned from reddit and /r/accounting. You can read the FAQ's and use the search bar to look for past discussions on careers.

    BEC - 78 (August 2015)
    FAR - 80 (November 2015)
AUD - 73, 67. (Ok I gotta confess I was even more lazy this time around)
    REG - August 27th, 2016
