This is for people taking their exams in the July/August 2010 testing window.
Hey everyone, I plan on taking my test the middle of July or as soon as I am able to schedule it when I get my NTS. I am using Becker and have taken notes on Ch. 1, 2, 4 and using Jeff's Econ notes. Have yet to start on Ch. 5, but know I need to. If anybody wants to share their ideas about their studying arrangements or would like to discuss different BEC topics I am all for it.
Ness
Jeff,
Who conducts your videos...You, Yeager??
What do you mean by "conducts" my videos? Not sure I understand..
Are they similar to the Yeager homestudy or cram videos. Is it Phil, Cindy or somone else not associated with Yeager.
Some areas are from the HomStudy...others are Phil teaching directly to Club 75 members in a special filming.
It costs a penny to check them out.
Ness - I'm taking my BEC exam next Friday, July 2. Unfortunately, I feel the least prepared I've been for an exam, so I'm starting to stress out a little bit. Work has been extremely busy the past two weeks, so I lost some valuable study time. I feel like I've nailed down lectures 1 and 2 (I've re-read the chapters and redone the homework getting over 90%). I hope tonight to cram in lecture 4, since I feel it is a little easier than lecture 3. At some point, I'm going to have to really cram for lectures 3 and 5 and take the practice exams this weekend. Needless to say, I have a LOT of work to do. Any last minute suggestions for really tackling lectures 3 and 5? I'm considering buying Jeff's notes. I would push back my exam date, but then I run the risk of not getting enough time to study REG, which I have scheduled for August 27. Busy, busy, busy weekend for me!
bmw.cpa - I am with you on this. I have not prepared myself for BEC as much as I prepared for my previous exams due to work being so busy and the like. I am sitting on 7/9, orignially was going to take it on 7/3 but pushed it back. I will be doing some major cramming these next 2 weeks and I am scared out of my mind! Any tips would be helpful! All the best of luck with your studies bmw.cpa!!!
bmw.cpa-I would definitely get Jeff's notes, he has got some for Ch. 2 and Ch. 4 for Becker so that would really help you to get a lot of the major points down for Ch. 4. I have listened to all the lectures and almost finished answering all the questions except for about the last 200 in Ch. 5. I am in kind of the same situation that you are in I am going to take Auditing at the end of August and want to devote enough time to that. I just received my payment coupon and will be paying that within the next few days and hopefully get my NTS by July 3 or 4 and then however long it will take me to be able to schedule a time at the testing site. If I think I am going to end up with less than 6 weeks to study auditing after I take my BEC, I will probably stop studying BEC for a week and do the first lecture for Auditing and then go back the next week for my 2 week cram for BEC where I really study everything.
Hi Everyone!
I plan on sitting for BEC towards the end of July. I am just starting to begin the study process for this exam using Becker. Advice from my coworkers have been to really spend most of my time focusing on Ch. 5 and 3. Since the lectures do not build on each other as other sections do, I think I am going to start off with the harder ones and end with the easier. Not sure if it will work or not but this is what I have been told :)
BMW.CPA- I remember seeing you from the long-awaited results of the FAR exam and I see you passed! Congratulations.

I am studying 1, 2 & 4 then doing chapter 3 & 5. Just be sure to skim the old material to keep it fresh. I agree these chapter do not really build on each other. 3 & 5 have a lot of problems and some are time consuming to do. Also, chapter 4 & 5 are weighted more than the others and chapter 2 is only about 10%.
Good luck!
Hello Everyone.... I am in desperate for some advice on BEC. I have taken it 3 times w/ scores all between 60-70. I have only used Becker materials to study. I studied a lot each time for BEC and am still failing. It is becoming very frustrating. Has anyone had more success w/ BEC study materials from someone else other than the Becker materials? My only concern is that I would only need to buy BEC materials if I purchased the another product as I don't need any other course material. Any advice is soo much appreciated. I have truly had it w/ BEC, it is making me depressed. :(

Used Becker as my main study material and then purchased the Gleim testbank. I did well on everything but chapter 5. My test had a lot of problems and I just ran out of time.
I made a 73 in April so I am re-taking BEC next week. I messed up by not leaving enough time to practice Ch 5 problems. So this time I have done a review of 1, 2 and 4. Finishing up chpater 3 today and will take several days to review chapter 5 problems. I hope my speed picks up so that if my test has a loy of problems it will be doable in the time allowed.
What did your analysis indicate? Do you know your weak areas? The Gleim testbank can be downloaded frpm pnline and is about $60.
Ready2BDone,
I completely understand where you are coming from. I have BEC left to finish, taken it 3 times with scores of 71,74, and 74. I used only CPAexcel the first two times and on the last try made the mistake of jumping around to different books (I got a free Kaplan through work, bought the Wiley book, and used CPAexcel). This time, after a lot of suggestion on these boards I decided to buy Yaeger Homestudy. This time I am only using Yaeger. So far it is very good, they break up the Wiley book really well so that you are inundated with material. I would recommend it, but remember I just started using it, I haven't taken BEC after studying with it (just as a disclaimer). GOOD LUCK!
Also, anyone who has used Yaeger, do you find that IT isn't taught that much. I am a little nervous about the whole "read this yourself, do the MCQs I recommend, and repeat". If someone has used this and feels that it helped, I could use a little calming down about it. Thanks.
Has anyone used Roger review course for BEC? I'm curious to see if his material is well covered, since it's all multiple choice I want a clear understanding of everything! I see many people on here are using Becker. Please share your thoughts, I'm trying to sit for the exam by the end of July.... but we'll see. Best of luck to everyone!

When you re-took the BEC exam was the test pretty much the same each time or did it change a lot? I am re-taking BEC next week.
Thanks
hey guys. i posted this in the NTS section but wanna tell you guys, too. i found out i failed BEC for the 3rd time with a 71 when i took it in may. i still had FAR to sit for...but decided to keep plugging away with BEC so i reapplied for a new NTS on june 18th through NASBA website for MA. well june 28 rolled around and i hadn't received my NTS yet and my credit card hadn't been charged.
the NASBA website says that for NTS if you haven't received it in 5 business days for registration with a credit card to call. i spoke to some woman from the CPA exam services and she told me that my records don't show any registration or anything. so i should go ahead and try to reapply for it. i reapplied for both BEC and FAR on june 28. my credit card still hasn't been charged as of today, but i am hoping it will be. (the ONLY time i will actually be happy to see a $500+ charge on my credit card...)
after reading this i am nervous! i dunno if something is wrong with registering online?! i want to sit for BEC 2nd week of july but the later i get my NTS the less days will be open to even sit for it. i wanna take FAR at the end of aug.
any suggestions or anybody experience anything similar?? jeff have you heard anything about online registering not working properly?
thanks
RT09 when i took BEC in march i actually got comparable in IT and economics with just using becker. i ordered the Yaeger CRAM dvd for the may exam and got comparable in business structure, economics and cost accounting but weaker on IT (go figure) and finance.
so i did better with IT first time around with becker! i am going to start watching the Yaeger homestudy soon so i will let you know how i find them to be with IT in the homestudy vs. the CRAM. (i would assume they go more in depth...)
CPA Journey...After taking BEC 3 times...I can tell you that it is definitely a toss-up...one exam was IT heavy, another was Cost Accounting heavy, each time the structure was different and made it very difficult to prepare for the next one. If I were you I would NOT bank on having a test that looks very similar. I would GUESS you will see a decent amount of the same concepts, but alot of things that were not tested on your first attempt. Sorry, I know this isn't much help. Good luck to you next week!

Never had a problem with appyling online. Do you have the ability to check the status online? In TX we can monitor the progress of the request to test.
Is there a way they can do it over the phone?
bmwcpa,
What's your status? How are you coming along with the cram?
cpa journey - i never had a problem with registering online either. i did it once in sept 2009 and march 2010. so i am not sure why it is giving me trouble now. i actually don't know if i can check the status online because the only form i get after i register is a "Success!" page that i print out...but doesn't have a confirmation number or anything on it.
when i called originally the woman from the cpa exam services couldn't even see in the computer that i had registered i don't think it can be tracked in MA? i am gonna call them again tomorrow if my credit card hasn't been charged yet because i am very concerned.... :( i just wanna schedule my exams!!
Just got my score for BEC.
It was worth the wait but it was definitely nerve-wracking
congrats CPABoston!! :)
rash - The practice exams were tough. I scored a 60 on the first one, studied it, retook it the next day and got an 85. I scored a 60 on the second exam, too. This test is going to be interesting......I don't understand, because I know the flash cards forward and backward, and am scoring well on the homework problems. It's the practice exams that have made me second-guess my preparedness. Tomorrow's the big day, so I guess only time will tell....
Good luck to everyone! We will all conquer!

Thanks for your insight! I did view all the lectures again and will do the MC for each chapter. I thought they would mix it up to keep it interesting.
Took BEC today and it wasn't as bad as I thought it would be. I'm not sure if I passed but most of the material was familiar. I used Yaeger Home Study in combination with the Wiley book (only listened to lectures for 3 or 4 chapters - IT, business structure, cost planning, budgeting, variances), read all chapters and did all multiple choice questions at least once (approx. 80-85 hours studying in total). There were a few questions that covered material that wasn't mentioned in the Wiley book but I'm thinking those might have been pretest questions. I was most afraid of IT but it wasn't bad (maybe I was just lucky).
Now the long wait begins. Taking the long weekend off and starting REG next week (hopefully the last one left). Good luck to everyone.
just sat for BEC today...I must confess that I feel better than for REG and FARE (which I both passed with 79 and 85)...I don't like sims (i did not finish them by half for REG and FARE)...I am schedulled for AUD next Tuesday and hope this will be the end of this 9 months journey!...GOD Help me!
Thanks Mponi123
One strategy that has helped me was to spend twice as much time on sample questions in areas that I was weak in compared to areas that I felt strong in.
I took BEC on July 1, and I know it is a little early; but does anybody know when I can expect to get my score back? Thanks!
