   cpa journey - i thought about you today! glad to hear your exam went a little better than the first one. i take mine next monday. i am on disk 5 of 6 with the Yaeger homestudy. have about 5 more hours of lecture left. the great thing about Yaeger is that the instructor (mainly Cindy) goes over multiple choice questions with you!!

   i have to admit i was definitely lost with becker with a lot of the calculation topics and of course got asked to calculate different formulas on the exam. i had no idea! i feel better this time around...hoping it is worth the 4 points! i will have 5 days to just focus on reworking m.c. hopefully it is enough!

   BEC is unpredictable exam. I thought it is easy but it humbled me. This exam will make you feel confident that you ace it but in the end it is very disappointing when you get your final exam result. Keep on doing the MCQ's and pray!

   I take my test a week from today and I just took my first practice exam using Becker and scored a 78.67, which is kind of scary since some of the questions were ones that I have already seen from the homework. For people that have taken the test and passed how do the Becker practice tests and scores relate to the REAL test?

   BEC 7/20/10 88 (90 hours)
   AUD 8/27/10 73 (65 hours), retake 11/22/10 81 (75 hours)
   FAR 10/28/10 80 (157 hours)
   REG 1/7/10 extended to 1/17/10 78 (130 hours) I'M DONE!!!!!!!!!!!!!

   Thanks for the good thoughts. Sounds like you are on target to master this exam. Hope you get a good exam. If it gets tense take a couple deep breaths to relax. It will calm you down help you to think more clearly.

   @Suzzette, love your explanations for your scores. haha. I have been praying for almost a year now and hope to see the light soon. I took REG yesterday. I feel i can never walk out of the exam confident, but feel I have a fighting chance. I am taking BEC 8/31- the last day of the window. If i'm lucky, it could be my last. Going to cram hard the coming weeks. Taking a couple of days off to breathe though! Good luck to everyone.

   Looks like a mixed crowd as far as becker results? Hope the question stay on par with the becker questions for my sake.

   I just sat for BEC again (74 in the last window). I knew the information, but damn it if you don't get a ton of totally random questions. Fingers crossed I passed, but I got the same question twice and I know I got it wrong. The pathetic thing is the fact that it was such an easy question, and I realized my mistake as soon as I hit submit on that testlet.....damn come on 75!!! Time to study for FAR, assuming I passed BEC it's my last section.

   oobaisi - Your post sounds exactly like what I was just about to write! I took BEC yesterday after a 74 last window. It was totally random. I got the same question twice as well. Some questions were really easy, some took me 5 minutes to calculate and some seemed like they were missing information or extremely weird (pretest?). I studied with Northern IL CPA review materials and honestly feel like there wasn't anything I could have done differently to help me answer the random questions. If I were to do it again though, I would probably make sure to know some of the ins-and-outs of Sarbanes-Oxley!!

   I sat for the exam this past weekend. Totally random questions. I agree with ^ itsmestacey.
   I also dont know what i could of done differently to study for the exam. I'm just keeping my fingers crossed and hoping I passed.

   I take my test tomorrow at 3:30, what did you guys do the last day to prepare. Did you take it easy or do tons of MCQs? I am planning on taking another practice test today to see how I do, but was unsure if I should just read my notes 3 or 4 times or do lots of MCQs or take it easy.

    @ Ness - I did a whole bunch of MC q's. I took a quick look over my notes but I mostly did MC q's.
    There was not much calculations on my exam...since the questions were literally from every single chapter in the book. I'm studying with Becker material.

    hi everybody! i took BEC today...i feel optimistic about it! i got a good chunk of different calculations, but was able to solve them either using the appropriate formula or backing into it using the answer choices! some questions were totally random and i never saw that topic in my study material (Becker or Yaeger). i did guess on a couple.

    hopefully moving on to my last section, FAR, which i take aug. 31. here's to a month or so wait for our BEC score...

    Ness - i would do m.c. questions and review your notes a few times. that's what i did last night and a few hours this morning before my exam. i also always review my notes in the car for 15 - 20 min before going into the testing center. the formulas were fresher in my head and i was able to recall them easier. good luck!

    BTW jeff - i am SO HAPPY i ordered the Yaeger homestudy. i applied so many of Cindy's techniques to a lot of the questions, which i had no clue on how to calculate on previous exams. she is an awesome instructor! almost wishing i had yaeger for FAR, too but already ordered the 2010 becker stuff! i don't wanna listen to peter olinto or tim gearty anymore. haha

    hey CPABoston!! thanks :) i have a good feeling about the exam so here's hoping! i used yaeger homestudy and it really helped me with a lot of the calculations i saw on the exam. either i figured the answer out using the formula or was able to back into the answer with the answer choices i was given. then plugged it into the formula to see if it would work.

    good luck with AUD tomorrow!! did you already sit for REG? i am taking FAR on aug. 31, too!! hopefully my last section!! maybe i will see you in the FAR forum!

    Thanks for the advice, I too felt pretty good coming out the exam. I also had two questions that were absolutely not covered by Becker and did not even seem like they should be tested in BEC, hoping those were pretest questions. There were a few I had narrowed down two choices, but other than that I think I did okay as long as I did not do the common mistakes and pick the common wrong answer. Here is to hoping this first test is completely done with and receiving an awesome score around August 17th :).

    Has anyone here used Bisk to study for BEC? I've used it for all of the other sections and passed them first try. The thing is, everyone is posting focus on chapter 3-5 in Becker, and I'm just curious what the topics of those chapters are or how the correspond to the Bisk chapters. Thanks!

    Yes. I have not studied for a single section for more than a few weeks. You just have to be dedicated to come home from work and buckle down. I spent 2 solid weeks for AUD, spent about 3-4 on FAR and had a kid in the middle, and a few more for REG. BEC was the hardest to be dedicated for because it is my last section, but 2 solid weeks of being buckled down made the test seem easy.

    Definitely possible,

    I work full time and put in about 3-4 hours during the weekday and 6 hours Sat/Sun to review what I learned for the week.

    First week: Chapters 1-2 and half of 3 on Sunday
    Second week: Finish 3, 4 and half of 5 on Sunday
    Third Week: Reviewed topics tested 5, 3, 2
    Fourth Week: Reviewed topics 1, 4 (4 which is IT, I was pretty comfortable, but is a major topic)
    Fifth Week: By this time I felt comfortable with all "conceptual information", then I started by going through each chapter and making sure i knew how to knock out word problems.

    This was while working full time in a mid-size firm. So if you have all the time in the world, I'd say 3-4 weeks is even possible!

    christian2823 - they say 4 weeks for BEC at 20 hours a week. So you should be good. I am retaking BEC in 4 weeks, and I have barely looked at the material. I used Becker for the first try, what a joke. I got Yaeger for this try, and I can't seem to get past the 1st 30 mins with Phil in the 1st lecture. His voice is so drabby and annoying...I even fell asleep watching the lecture! I have finally put my own foot down for myself and told myself that this is it. I'm going to get back into my groove this weekend if it kills me. I hope to knock out business structures and econ and all the questions by the end of the weekend.
    I took a little break since summer started bc I had a couple of vacations planned. I have heard such good things about Yaeger that I will use that as my motivation to get through the lectures. I am taking the test on Aug 20th, a Friday, and will take the entire week prior off from work to do nothing but study. I'm running out of vacation days, but hopefully this will be it for me and BEC.

    Thanks to all. I moved BEC to August 28,because the material is sooooo boring and it takes me a lot to concentrate. I am waiting on the AUD scores so that is keeping my mind busy as well.

    I took AUD this afternoon. Glad to get it over. Think I did OK, praying I passed. I'm in Scituate. I am using Roger CPA Review and am thinking about going to a free live lecture for FAR 1 & 2 this Saturday at UMass Boston. Have you started studying for FAR yet? I am starting tomorrow - can't wait "LOL"

    Hey CPABoston! Hopefully AUD went well for you! So your next section is FAR and then REG? I was just curious because your notes under your blog (i don't know what it's called!) say REG - 7/10 so I thought you took AUD and REG in the same month!

    I started studying for FAR with Becker and got through Chapters 1 and 2...but was confused during Chapter 2 and felt that Becker really didn't do a great job explaining the material. I switched to Yaeger after failing BEC twice. They did a MUCH better job explaining concepts so I feel good about my exam. I ended up ordering Yaeger homestudy for FAR, too today just because I like the teaching style of Yaeger better. (Becker did work for me for AUD and REG...but I want to stick with what works for me!) You and I will have an intense 5.5 weeks to study!!! Keep me updated on your progress!

    MPoni123 - I used Becker for FAR first time and i failed miserably. Reason being I never grasped the concepts. (Also being my first test, I partied too much lol). Now nearly 8 months later (and after lonng break), I retried FAR (took it few days ago) and feel significantly better. Reason being, I used Yaeger Home Study. Yaeger works for me too. I'm using them for BEC now also. So far I like.

    Passed REG, FAR, BEC.AUD. Struggling ETHICS. CALIFORNIA

    CAcpahopeful - very good idea! Cindy is amazing in BEC and although Phil is a little boring, he definitely taught info about business structure that I was unaware of when I used Becker. I am just waiting on my FAR Yaeger homestudy (I ordered it yesterday) So as soon as I get it, I will hit the ground running. 5.5 weeks is not long at all for FAR. Hopefully you did well on your exam!

    @MPoni123 thanks... AUD went well, I took REG in early July. I'm not sure how I did on REG. Good luck studying for FAR. I started today with Roger. Can't believe how much material there is to cover. I don't know if I will be ready by Aug31 but that is my goal.
