Is there anyone doing the Oasis trick? Can anyone please post the website? I hope this works still.
FAR - Passed
BEC - Passed
Audit - 11/28

Is there anyone doing the Oasis trick? Can anyone please post the website? I hope this works still.
They NASBA loophole only works after NASBA has released the scores and they have been put into their system. So, actually the day after NASBA releases.
Has NASBA released yet?
Jeff said his NASBA source thinks it will be Wednesday.
Wednesday!!?! So no score until Thursday? Darn, I was really hoping it would be today...
Guys, these are just predictions, but Jeff is usually very good with them (he's been within a few days or spot on on each of my exams)... Also, there seems to be some confusion...the AICPA releases first, then NASBA releases (they say 24-48 hours after the AICPA releases). The NASBA release is when you will receive your scores online. The loophole supposedly works after the AICPA release, but as Jeff and some of the other posters have said in the past windows, the NASBA is trying to close the loophole....good luck with scores coming out!
Does anyone know the latest and the earliest in a day that the AICPA has released scores?
My free score release FAQ e-book answers some of these questions:
Just downloaded the book, it was very helpful. Has there ever been a score relating to BEC pushed into WAVE 2 for a reason other than the date it was taken?
I am sure that there has been a score delayed, but I don't recall a specific instance. The general rule is that they all get released - or 99% of them.
I am a VA candidate and BEC is my last section of the exam. I need the score before the 18th or I might get fired. I am praying the AICPA releases tomorrow and I get my score on the 18th or I might be looking for a new job.....come on AICPA, please release tomorrow!
I was hoping for a BEC release today and AUD release Wednesday from AICPA, but it won't happen. BEC should be Wednesday and AUD will be Friday. If you throw in the NASBA post time, I won't see my damn AUD score until Monday night. This sucks. I would check the loophole, but I don't think it will be active until probably Monday morning. Any thoughts on this?
Release em Already - why wouldn't your firm just wait a few extra days until your score officially comes out??
GSU Josh - Wednesday night is the AICPA release day...which means NASBA won't release them to us until Thursday night...the EARLIEST. I am sure something will get screwed up, though. Only time will tell...
Until then...back to Cindy for FAR: Segment Reporting. The amount of information is ridiculous. I am losing steam...
Who knows, hopefully there will be some flexibility......only time will tell I guess....the only thing to do now is wait.
Hey all,
I'm taking BEC in a week. I'm using Becker to study, and have gone through all of the material and am starting up my review. Managerial accounting is really giving me trouble, especially the variances. Any tips on studying them?
Danny787
What part are you having trouble with?
If I spend 5-10 minutes on an individual Becker Hw question that deals with OH variances, with my notes open, I can figure it out. I just don't know how I'm going to be able to memorize and master all of the variance formulas within the next week (while I try to review all of the material as well!).
I've heard that Becker variance question are much much tougher than what I will see on the exam. I'm just looking for advice on how to study variances and assigning costs (through the various methods) in a simpler way, and if the question on the actual BEC exam will be as complicated as Becker's HW.
Danny787
Let me check my notes and I will summarize some information that may help you. There are a couple of patterns in how you calculate the variances that will help you do them quickly. I will post the information sometime tomrrow.
I am hoping the score will release today!
Me too... but it seems like everyone else is set on it coming out tomorrow! (I need this to come out because I'm waiting for AUD)
Danny,
I do not have my BEC notes handy but this is what I remember from Variances (Cindy from Yaeger)...
AQ * AP
AQ * SP
SQ * SP
This is how she set it up, now take the first two AQ*AP and AQ*SP, what has changed? THE PRICE so this is a price variance... I cannot be sure of the other names lol so I do not want to say them, but feel free to email me tmarsha21@gmail.com and I will try and help you some more if you are interested.
Danny787 - I definitely cannot take credit for this, this was posted by another member, financeguy, but his post really helped me to understand variances better than the way Becker taught it. If I knew how to sync it up, I would - hopefully financeguy doesn't mind my sharing it!
(financeguy)
"I see quite a few posts of people having problems w/ variances, so I thought I would post this as I don't think I have seen it on here before. This is how I learned it in college and makes much more sense to me then the way they show it in my review course.
AQxAP<---------------------------->AQxSP<------------------------------>SQxSP
The left side is the price variance, the right side is the usage variance, and the entire thing is the total variance. So what you do is set up algebraic equations:
for price variance = AQ(AP - SP)
materials/usage variance = SP(AQ - SQ)
Then you just plug in the numbers that you are given and perform the equation. I simply memorized that AQ is on the far left and SP on the far right. I have always liked algebra and been really good at it, so this worked very well for me. For me, this makes variances a piece of cake. Not sure if I explained it well enough, but maybe it will help someone out. "
Hope this helps! :)

Hi everyone and good luck. I have a question that hopefully someone can answer me. I have taken all my exams and plan to be licensed in NY, I have a wedding in Chicago at the end of the the month and plan on being there for a week and i wanna use all the time i can to study for my last test before the end of this testing window, Can i take the exam there and it counts towards my NY CPA License?
Thank you!
Yes you can take the test at any prometric testing center.
When I taught Managerial Accounting in graduate school, I showed my undergrad students a technique for variances that they never forgot.
There is a pattern for all variances:
QxP QxP QxP (This is the same for all setups)
Then think of the word ASS (AAASSS)
A A A S S S
QxP QxP QxP
Also to remember what kind of variance you are dealing with, just look at what variable changes.
A A A S S S
QxP QxP QxP
Above the difference between the two QxPs on the left is that one is Actual Quantity x Actual Price and the other is Actual Quantity x Standard Price. Obviously Actual Price and Standard Price are the differing variables, so you know you are dealing the the price or rate variance.
Just do the same with the right side. Actual Quantity x Standard Price vs. Standard Quantity x Standard Price. Again, it is obvious that the differing variables are Actual Quantity and Standard Quantity, so you know you are dealing with a quantity or usage variance.
What time of day does AICPA usually release the scores?
430ish....
murphy - all of the info like this is in the free guide...
Jeff- sorry, thanks.
ah, no problem...just want you to have the info
Jeff
Thanks for all of the variance tips...I haven't even thought about cost accounting since I took it in grad school 10 years ago and it has been driving me insane. The ASS mnemonic did the trick!
Does anyone know the very latest date the AICPA has started releasing scores. Have they ever held scores into the end of the seventh week or even into the eighth week of the testing window before they finally started giving them up?
Danny787
Looks like Jeff has some variance information too.
If you will post an email address I will send you a spreadsheet that may help. My suggestion is go open a new email account name - no need to get a bunch of junk mail in your regular email account.
Come aaaaaahn. I want to know NOW!!!
Will AICPA release the score today??? awww...
come on BEC score!!!
i can't wait until scores are released and this forum is a MAD HOUSE. there is no excitement right now. like I always say...the calm before the storm..
I hate to admit it, but the entire process of the exam hit me really hard after I sat for BEC on July 22nd. I let off the gas and haven't picked it back up. I take FAR on 8/31 and I have studied FIFTEEN HOURS so far. My NTS expires 9/24 for FAR. Regardless of how much time I have studied I plan on sitting 8/31. Right now I am just chalking up a fail and a $220 loss.
After basically dedicating my entire life to BEC and AUD from June 1 - July 22nd, I need some sort of validation to help me continue the push.
I sat for AUD on 7/1 and BEC on 7/22. I started hitting a wall near the end of BEC but I pushed as hard as I could and made it through. I am hoping I passed both BEC and AUD so I won't feel nearly as bad for blowing off FAR. I ((think)) I did worse on BEC than AUD. What I think really doesn't matter, as was shown by my passing REG. I could have sworn that there was absolutely NO way that I passed REG and I ended up with a score in the high 90's.
The sooner the BEC scores are released the better.
MPoni123 - It's quiet... too quiet... I wonder how big the storm it is going to be. Part of my life is already destroyed with the number of hours put in studying... either my score will pay it off or I will be completely blown off. Will see... good luck to you all.
@Ineedonly75 - good luck to you, too!! We will all be here in a few days (possibly tomorrow night) sharing our joys or pain. I am hoping it is joy for all of us.
@Idrathergolf - cute username! lol. I hear you....I don't even know how many hours I have studied for FAR (not enough I know that) and I also sit for it on 8/31. MY NTS expires October 8...but I don't want to push back FAR. If I do fail, I want another shot to sit for it in the Oct/Nov testing window before the exam changes in 2011. I lose my Audit credit in April 2011 and Reg in May 2011. So I have like 4 more chances to sit for it at least. I really hope I passed BEC. then FAR will be my last one.
I have been at this since April 2009...I am ready to end this BS already. I feel the same way about my REG score. I walked outta there knowing I failed...to my surprise I got a 90 (no idea how honestly).
I keep coming back thinking this forum is going to have exploded - or at least hoping. I also love the fact how I think the AICPA and NASBA are going to break the mold of their time releases and think I should frantically check my score throughout the entire day today! Good Luck to all on staying sane through the waiting game!! It is torture!
I just can't seem to concentrate on my AUD that i am about to take on the 08/25. I hope it would get better after the BEC scores are released.
Thanks mponi.... It was the first thing that came to mind when thinking about studying for the exam! I give you a lot of credit for staying at it this long! Everything that I have read leads me to believe that the feeling of actually being done with studying is much greater than the feeling of passing the CPA exam. After taking three sections I have no doubts that it is true.
I hope you pass on 8/31 so you don't even have to worry about the Oct/Nov testing window!
WHERE'S MY SCORE???!!!! Just kidding, I'm taking BEC in 2 weeks. For those who took the exam, how important are supplemental questions in Becker? I noticed that there are 200 supp questions in B-5. I'm going to start studying today and I only have 2 weeks. Thanks.
Okay, I'll join the waiting party, too. I may as well, I'm reading all of your posts! Come onnnnn AICPA! It's about that time.....3:30 EST - 5:30 EST (according to Jeff's handy-dandy Score Release book) :)
Good luck to all!
big shot - For my exams, I actually save the supplemental questions for when I start reviewing the homework during my final review. I take lots of little quizes or progress reports and I like when the quizes pull from the supplemental bank so that I see new questions that I haven't seen multiple times before (or memorized). But everyone's different!
haha yea it should be any minute now, I keep loading my tweets on my phone hoping the two from NASBA pop up!! I am interested to see if the loophole is still working... Good luck everyone, sadly only about 50% of us will pass...
@bmw cpa
thanks, that's exactly what i did with the FAR supp questions that I actually ended up doing. I guess I'll try the same thing for BEC. I was a finance major so hopefully it'll help me w BEC or will it lol
Will the following message change in Oasis once the score releases?
"All or some sections of your Notice to Schedule (NTS) have been attended but scores have not been received."
Today, 10896 BEC scores were released by the AICPA to NASBA from the July / August 2010 testing window.
Thanks Jeff!
woohoo,..... what shall i do now??? i am so nervouscwejcbhiweco!
BAM!
finally! Thank you Jeff!!! I love you! (is that inappropriate? hahahaha)
That is a lot of test takers!
Yea, I agree, that is a LOT of test takers! I can only imagine this next testing window will be the most ever with the exam changing.
So i'll be the first to post this comment, its always asked so maybe someone finally kept track. The infamous loophole question, how long after AICPA releases to NASBA should the loophole work? They may have plugged it though so what may look like a passing score might not be, all I can hope for is that I cannot register and until 10:50 tomorrow... someone post if you can register please! :) im sorry but please...
CPAWannabe,
First words out of my mouth "gosh dang that is a lot of test takers"
I hate testing in a NASBA state - I want my score now! I guess we have to wait until tomorrow afternoon?!? :*(
