BYU Independent Study – Oregon CPA

I am graduating from college this spring and have recently accepted a full-time position at a local accounting firm. However, I am going to be about 10 credits short of the 150 requirement. I have been researching online summer schools to find the best option for price, ease and duration to complete the course.

I came across the BYU independent study program and liked the pricing and availability to complete the courses on my own time and as quick as I want. How do I know if the credits I complete will be accepted for the CPA exam? I would hate to complete the course and then not have all the credits be accepted and have to wait to sit for the CPA in Oregon.

Does anyone have any experience with this program or know how I can check to see if the credits will be accepted?

    Thank you.

In California as long as they are units from an accredited university they will count. I would look in the cpa exam candidate manual for Oregon but as long as the university is accredited by WASCO or one of the major regional accreditation agencies you should be fine. ACCSB accredited programs definitely will count.

I spoke to an ancient wise man who sent me on a mushroom induced journey through an ancient forest to find the key to passing the CPA exam. A talking spider monkey told me to throw the last of my drinking water in the dirt to find what I was looking for. So I followed his instructions and the following message appeared in the soil:

"Do 5000 multiple choice questions for each section"

This policy will actually be determined by your state's Board of Accountancy (or equivalent body). I imagine the requirements are similar from state to state. Here is what California's applicant handbook says:

The CBA accepts only subjects from degree-granting colleges and universities, or other institutions of learning that are accredited by a U.S. regional or national accrediting agency recognized by the U.S. Department of Education (included in a list published by the U.S. Secretary of Education). The CBA also accepts education received from extension programs and correspondence subjects from these accredited colleges and universities.

    FAR - 71, 94
    BEC - 91
    REG - 51, 88
    AUD - 89

Do you know if retaking classes I took previously in college through the online class for credit is allowed? Taking beginner accounting would be pretty easy.
