August 5, 2013 at 7:26 pm #429586AnonymousInactiveCA's site still says 2014: https://www.dca.ca.gov/cba/applicants/lic_require.shtml So, looks like this is in the hopes and dreams stage, and you guys need to lobby your state representatives and senators like there's no tomorrow!!
But for the sake of all your Californians, I really hope that the OP is correct! I know that requirement was stressing a lot of you out, and it really does suck that they have no system of grandfathering someone in. 😐
August 5, 2013 at 8:30 pm #429587littlenumberrobotMemberIt's still proposed legislation. Senate is supposed to pass it but no official word until sept or oct. If you read the second source link it states the legislation is proposed. Sign up for email updates from CBA and you will find out when it's official.

August 6, 2013 at 5:48 am #429588evesocalMemberThe last thing I heard was that if you pass all four parts of the exam by 12/31/13 you did not need 150 credits to get licensed.
So if this new thing passes, the 12/31/13 deadline to pass the CPA exam changes to 12/31/15? To not have to get 150 credits?

August 6, 2013 at 9:27 pm #429593kperrucciParticipantCurrently, you need to have met all requirements for licensure and sent your application and fee to the CBA by 12/31/13. This means simply passing all four sections before 12/31/13 will not be enough to get licensed under the current requirements. You would need to satisfy work experience, pass the CA ethics exam, and get fingerprinted/live scan as well. Obviously you can speed up the process for the CA ethics exam and finger prints….but, if you don't have the work experience there isn't anything you can do about it.

Personally I really hope this is true.
August 6, 2013 at 9:37 pm #429595kperrucciParticipantI understand what the OP is saying. Just letting evesocal know that if the legislation doesn't change, simply passing all four exams by the end of the year isn't enough. Didn't want them counting on that and get screwed if legislation doesn't change. That's all!
But, yes….hopefully they extend the deadline.

IF it passes – then there are two more years that people can still get licensed without 150 credits? I know everyone still needs experience, ethics, etc. But those 150 credits – if you have 120, getting another 30 is no small matter.
I'm kind of surprised CA is taking so long to get on board with the 150 credits. But not surprised we are doing it in such a bass-ackward way. I hope for the sake of my coworkers the extension goes through.

CAL CandidateAugust 7, 2013 at 3:43 pm #429599littlenumberrobotMemberIF it passes, it will allow those who finish the exams by the end of 2013 to be able to get licensed under the old 2 pathways. So yes this would mean if you passed by 2013, and did not have the 150 you may take two years to get experience and apply for licensing. But if you do not pass by 12/31/13, you will be subject to the new licensing rules(ie. 150 unit requirement and 1 year experience)
Hope this clears it up better.
@gingercpa – Yes, as of today, you are correct.

August 7, 2013 at 3:43 pm #429600AnonymousInactiveI haven't read the whole thing but it looks like you would still need pass all four sections of the exam by 12/31/13.
“5092.1.
Notwithstanding subdivision (a) of Section 5093, an applicant who has successfully completed the examination requirement specified in Section 5082 on or before December 31, 2013, may qualify for the issuance of a certified public accountant license until January 1, 2016, if he or she has met all remaining requirements specified in Section 5092 as they existed on December 31, 2013.”
I think what that means is that you would just get extra time to get the work experience, pass the ethics exam, and submit the application.
Hopefully, I’m understanding this wrong. It would be nice to have extra time to pass the exam too. I have my final section scheduled on 11/30 (The last possible day you can take the exam this year).
