I have a bit of a problem with a question on my CA Ethics exam. The included study materials are from 2010. One of the questions on my exam has an answer that would change depending on if you answer it as of 2010 or as of 2014. I’m thinking that I need to answer it as of 2010 since that’s what was provided as the study material. It’s driving me nuts that they would include a question that you have to answer incorrectly in order to get it correct! Probably going to end up trying to call someone official and ask but it’s still ridiculous to have this question included.

I would answer per the 2010 material they gave you. I assume they didn't update it until they issue new material. But a call to CalCPA doesn't hurt.

Luckily the Cal CPA support email answered really quickly and said to answer it as of 2010. They're going to look at the question though. It's very clear that the ruling was changed in 2011 so hopefully they update this one next time.

And after reviewing the question, they said they're already aware of the issue and it will be fixed in the future. Which doesn't really help anyone trying to pass the exam right now that is NOT aware of the issue.

You get 3 chances with your first payment, then you just have to call them up to reset for the next 3 chances. After that(if needed) you pay 1/2 the original cost for another 3 chances.
